Hi

As winter is now upon us (boo!) my riding time is cut to just weekends (unless I ride in the dark, ok, but wouldn't do it on my own as on our estate I may not be found until morning if something bad happened!). My boy isn't overly fat but could do with toning up a bit and I was wondering what sort of exercises I should be concentrating on to try to achieve this in the time the I have. Ideally things I can work on our hacking...any suggestions?

I'm hoping my YM will ride him mid-week, he's a very experienced rider who has helped produce 4* event horses competeing them in their earlier years at lower levels so I have no doubt that that will most certainly help if funds and his time allow!

Thanks :)

while out hacking, do lots of hill work. you can do most schooling exercises whilst out hacking. leg yield from one side of the road to the other, but only on very quiet lanes obviously. you can lenghthen and shorten the stride during each pace. long and low strenching. you name it...you can do it on a hack...enjoy and be inventive

Thanks for your reply :)

We do (try!) to do most of thse things out hacking so will just carry on with it & perhaps try to be a bit more disciplined too and make each hack really count!
