Simple question can I feed the turmeric and black pepper bought for my horse to my dog. At the momentvI lovinly make up shop boughtvt with olivevoil and pepper for my elderly JR and boil up her chicken and rice in it. OH asked why can't she have the horse stuff? 😕

We buy plain turmeric online, horses and dogs get it and we haven't had any problems. Only difference I can think of between what you buy and make is possibly the amount of black pepper they add for horses compared to dogs, but maybe you could get the turmeric on its own and add your own oil/pepper to both?

Same reason as people feed horses and take it themselves - it appears to work as an anti inflammatory and helps with creaky old joints. Between going on that and yumove our 16yo went down to a 1/3 dose of metacam daily from a full one. She only has a tiny amount and you can tell if she misses out on any one of them for any reason so its not just the other 2 which help but the combination of the 3 which suits her.

I'm sure there are joint supplements which contain it anyway.

Ah OK - I don’t know anyone who either takes it or gives it to their horse, hence the question. Don’t suppose it does any harm

It certainly seems to help our old girl. Suppose its like anything else, it wont work for everybody but I think its one worth trying.

The other good thing about it is that it hides flavours of things they may not want in their tea, such as wormers, quite successfully!

My cats are on a turmeric solution, so many drops a day as prescribed by an old animal healer, and it works. One of them reacted pretty badly to metacam (throwing up) so we had to try something gentler and they are both at least as good as they were on metacam. The other one has Rhus Tox too as recommended by the healer. I tend to be a science-based type of person but this healer has never failed us with our animals.
