I have just started feeding turmeric after reading good things about it. I looked up turmeric analysis to see what vits and mins it contained and it does have quite a few but the iron percentage seemed high per 100grams , but if im only feeding a tablespoon of it maybe its not significant enough to worry about but of course I am worrying as iron lodges in the liver and cannot easliy be removed if fed in excess ,this in turn interferes with copper and zinc hence poor hoof quality/abcess and coat problems so I do know its important , .. I know a lot of people are feeding turmeric and have had great results so perhaps I really am overly concerned I just dont know. Does anyone know please.

Yes I have joined the group but have looked into it a bit further and as long as the turmeric contains curcumin and hasnt had it removed it should be ok because the curcumin can attach to iron lodged in the liver and remove it just think I need to get a new batch with the curcumin guaranteed to make sure.

I'm going to watch this with interest as I don't feed it but have thought about it. You see our grazing is very very high iron so I won't feed any supplements with added iron in so reading this would make me think twice about it esp due to the fact we suffer with very low copper.

How can it be too high in Iron? Weren't you aware that its a miracle cure for all things including cancer!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

Sarcasm is the lowest form of wit, thanks to tumeric, my mare is now enjoying life again and back in light work, she was on her last summer last year, she was struggling so much, (arthritis) because of the good results with her-, I started on itt and have gone from being unable to do up buckles etc, or ride for long, to having full use of my hands again and hacked for two hours, even dismounted without help. Don't knock it till you have tried it

There's always one,
If it works for some people and their animals that's great and I remember people on here being horrid to the lady who thinks it cured her cancer, so what, if she thinks it worked and she's healthy and happy so be it.
Like others have said if you haven't tried it.........

Wow people really did that? Id be well ashamed of myself.

Just re read this thread, forgot to say, thanks to Tumeric my mare has not needed bute for months now and is still sound, at the time I nearly pts, all the vet could suggest was up the bute to 5 per day for a week, an elderly horse (20) needing that amount, what quality of life would it have been, I wish I could put a video on showing how well my mare is

Thats great flirtygerty ,it is an anti inflammatory and does contain vits and mins ,on the turmeric group there have been some good results and like yourself people have turned horses around back to good health , my concern was though it seemed high in iron but as long as the curcumin is still in the turmeric I think its ok as the curcumin binds to iron and removes it from the liver ,well thats what I have read so hope its right. So glad your mare has had a second lease of life.
