I know there are lots of threads on here recommending turmeric for arthritis but I don't seem to be able to find how much should be fed. I want to try it on my pony (about 500kg) and my aging dalmatian (about 24kg). Any ideas about amounts?

Thanks in advance.

There was a long thread on the IHDG forum a while ago. Quite a few peeps on there feed it.
I buy it from Cotsherb.co.uk and feed approx 15mg in a scoop.
My horses like the taste as much as the joint help ;)

I used turmeric on an arthritic pony but did not see any long term benefits from it. I had much more success with magnets. Don't forget all horses are different so give it a try for yourself. You can buy it from Tesco's in big bags cheap enough. I found it on the european food shelves. I gave a heaped teaspoon in each feed. Bearing in mind she is only 9hh. Most horses like it so you should be able to get it down ok. Good luck

A friend used a supplement scoop size (size of the one in Global Herbs) for the horse. I fed the dogs (23kg) a level teaspoon each.

Thought I would just update this to thank you all and let you know how well my dog is doing on the turmeric. I found the powder made her very thirsty so I've switched to turmeric tablets. She now has one of them a day plus her joint supplement and a cod liver oil tablet - they were sitting there looking at me so I thought why not? She is completely off all the vet medication - she was on 1/2 previcox and 2 tramadol a day - and the vet is so impressed with her progress. She is her normal cheerful self again, loving her walks which we're building up gradually. All in all she does not look or act like a 13 year old dalmatian, pretty good when she could hardly stand a few months ago.

I am so happy and would recommend trying turmeric to anyone with an arthritic dog.

The news for my pony is a bit more mixed as he appears to have more than just the arthritis going on but it has also helped him in that he is happy to have his back feet picked out now and was much easier for the farrier last time he came.

:D:D:D
