I had my mare on flexijoint and whilst it did make a difference, I decided to give turmeric ago because I prefer a mor natural route. It's made a massive difference more so than the flexijoint. We've had to mess around with the dosage with but she's now on four teaspoons a day and that works for her. I initially put her on it for joints but after three weeks her sarcoids completely disappeared and her runny eye which I've tried everything for, has stopped running. Her coat has gone redder and her general well being just seems to be really good. She seems so much happier. I suffer with rheumatoid arthritis which hasn't actually been diagnosed yet but I'm on the waiting list to see a specialist. My hands have been agony since this cold snap came and really stiff so I finally bit the bullet and have been trying to find ways of taking it. I've had some fails but I've found turmeric green tea to be the most palatable. So yesterday I managed to get two teaspoons into me throughout the day. Yesterday I also did some digging down the yard which would usually leave me in quite a lot of pain the following day and my hands would be swollen and stiff but guess what? I've woken up this morning and my hands are more flexible than they have been in days and I have no aches or pains any where including my hands. It's brilliant! I'm s pleased to have found something that clearly works for both of us. I just hope places don't start upping the price of it because everyone seems to be cottoning on to this wonder drug!

I started taking capsules of turmeric for myself about 3 weeks ago. They are 500mg, somedays I will take two and somedays I will take 3 - they are huge capsules and I'm not good at swallowing pills at the best of times so it just depends what I feel I can manage!

I haven't taken any now for about a week because I'm awful at remembering to but I have definitely noticed a difference in the stiffness in my back. I don't have a particularly bad back and people who suffer from back problems have my deepest sympathies, mine is merely a minor niggle compared to what some people deal with. Before taking the turmeric it would bother me most days and I could definitely feel the stiffness, but in the last week or so I definitely haven't noticed it as much, if at all. I think I have. Probably gone quite a few days without it feeling stiff at all.

I've also noticed when I take it consistently I see a massive improvement in my skin. I have been suffering with a patch of really dry flaky skin on my chin, which then migrated up to round my nostrils and upper lip and then reached my forehead. I've never suffered from dry skin so I went to the doctors, they prescribed me some lotion which didn't make any difference at all. Tried a few other lotions and potions and nothing worked at all. Eventually it started clearing up of its own accord but was very slow and it was still clinging on in places. This coincided with when I started taking the turmeric and lo and behold it has finally gone!

So I am definitely a big fan of turmeric, however I am still a bit skeptical about taking it every single day for a long period of time.

I have fed my 17 year old cob turmeric and Boswellia for the past year, just because I felt she was a bit stiff behind when schooling.I mix 1 kg of each together in a big tub and give 2 small scoops to her a day. She definatley takes longer strides now and has a nice over track in walk ( as remarked by dressage judge at the weekend!) maybe a coincidence but out of 9 feed bowls hers is the only one my dog will go to lick before they are washed and she gets the same food as everyone else....

Yes I wanted my mare to have this, so got all the things together olive oil, black pepper etc & put a tiny bit in her feed and of course she wouldnt eat her feed, it was well mixed into wet sugar beet, even my younger horse went over and had a try but he wouldnt touch it either, how do you make it palatable ?. I bought 2 bags of 150g for £1.79 in their penny sale from holland & barrett for those of you just starting out.

Try adding it very gradually without the olive oil and pepper at first (olive oil is a strong flavour), just a tiny bit at first. My horses all lick the bowls clean and love it, infact if I don't put it in then they aren't so bothered about licking the bowl. I also use it to disguise other things like agnus castus, without the turmeric the pony wont eat it.

I posted a few weeks ago that every joint supplement I've tried has not worked. 2 weeks ago I started my big lad on turmeric - arthritis in both hocks, worse on the near hind. He was on Danilon daily. About a week ago, I started upping the dose. I cannot believe the difference in my horse, we hack out and he is up for anything, literally bouncing. I keep pinching myself! He won't eat it with oil, but gets the black pepper and micronised linseed. I'm now taking capsules of the stuff for my hands, and it works.
