I would defintely turn away and I would do it asap to be honest! If you turn him away now, then bring him back into work slightly earlier next year- march ish ready for show season.

I backed one of mine as a 3 year old. Only rode him so he knew how to walk, trot and canter over 2 months and then turned him away from 1st july until mid- end of march. You wont regret it! I got back on mine after that time off and he felt SO SOOOO much better!!! As a 3 year old he was a bit slow and not responsive and wobbly ( as expected for a 3 year old 2bh)
When I brought him back as a 4 year old he felt so much stonger and is now really forward going! The break did him soo much good!

I have a exmoor who is 3 and even though she is small, she is far from physically mature. She loves to work, purely because she loves spending time with us, but this year all I did was sit on her and walk around a bit with a little jog now and again. I only did this 10 or so times. I want to get her ready for show season 2012 so will bring her back into work in march if I think she is physically mature.
