Having watched hunt relays at the local county show for years, I can safely say 90% of them do not. It’s always entertaining but from a horsemanship pov, it’s sad.
My favourites the gate, most of them run past it. Although brave there’s some rough riding going on!!

I learned to ride as an adult. I was eventually taught to turn on the forehand but by a visiting RI and not at my regular RS. That is because Turn on the Forehand which is very easy to ride is classified as BAD riding. Good riders (I was taught) have the weight on the haunches and turn on the haunches.
These days I leg yield the mare up to the gate, which is a double gate with a centre opening. I need to delay her going through the gates until there is clearance for my knees and since I am preventing the front end of the horse from moving, I guess I am doing a turn on the forehand every time.
However, if I am honest. The mare knows this gate better than I do. She never rushes it. She always waits till the gates are wide open with clearance for my knees. When one is learning to ride, one thinks one is telling the horse. Now I reckon that a lot of my riding is the horse telling me. She does it several times a day, 6 days a week.
