ok so I normally bring my horse in at night to her stable where she gets a feed and she is then turned out every morning for about 8 hours but the weather was so bad this morning, blowing a gale and bucketing I have decided to keep her in with plenty of hay to munch on. She will be in her stable now all day and night (as im at work and wont be back to dark). I have a lesson tomorrow morning at 10.30 so do you think if i turned her out at six tomorrow morning and brought her in at 9.30 to tack up will she be fresh or is 3 hours turnout before a lesson ok? first horse owner so still finding da reins.

P.S. she does not like being lunged hates her head being pulled and gets pissed off goin round and round.

My new boy was a PIG to ride if he didn't get turn out first, even just 30 mins would fix it, well, as much as anything fixes him!! I have managed to get him to a place where i don't need to do this now but I would turn out for an hour while you muck out etc and kill a bit of time before yor lesson if you don't know what she'll do so that you don't waste your lesson. Try riding b4 she goes out another time.

If you normally ride b4 turn out and are just concerned because she's been in an extra day, I wouldn't worry as much, they adjust pretty well on the whole.

You know your horse, trust yourself to make a decision!

Have a nice lesson.

:)

I'd say a nice few hours turn out would actually do her good, give her ample time to stretch her legs before a lesson, if you are really worried about her being fresh, you could just loose school her for ten minutes prior to tacking up for the lesson, that tends to de-fizz, or just give her some extra hay and ride her before turning out. I personally would do the latter, but thats just because Ebony would not like to come in after only 3 hrs and I'd be sat like a twit trying to apologise to the instructor why there was a rider but no horse to teach! LOL!

If your horse is good to catch, turning out shouldn't cause fizziness, but if you are worried, give her 10 mins in the school loose to blast it off before your lesson:D

If she was mine i would definitely turn her out standing in a stable for a long period might make her a little stiff. Also, gives her a chance to blow off any steam before you get on her:)

She'll only need the first five minutes turnout to take the fizz off, just in case. Is there any chance you can turn her onto the arena instead, to stop you having to sort out a mudcake before your lesson?

In your shoes, as a novice owner, I would turn her out before the lesson if only to make yourself more confident.

And next time - chuck her out in the rain, she's a horse :)

Ditto - they are better out than in but i spose you could always give her an umbrella:D

Like so ;)

There are some very funny candid photos in here!)

at my yard we're only allowed to put the horses out for an hour a day in pairs. If I'm having a lesson Charlie will go out for an hour with a calm older pony and then come in for an hour (about the time for all the mud to dry!) and he's always fine :) He's not sharp though, just excitable.
