my boy gets bad mud fever in the winter can anybody advise me on the best turn out boots....i would like to try them this year as the field he is in gets really boggy, at our previous yard he never got mud fever, but at present yard the muck heap runs into his field when wet im thinking this might be the problem?
does any1 have any tips on mud fever, he has a few scabs at the moment as we have had a bit of rain.
i do the usual hibi scrub and put lots of barrier cream on and hes in at night during the winter???
any tips greatly appreciated,,, x

You can get feed supplements for it, to help build up their defence against the bacteria that cause it. Don't know how good they are but some at my yard are trying it this year so I'll see how that goes.

I had the equilibrium mud fever boots and they were useless with my mare, she spends a lot of time tazzing around the field and they were usually bunched around her fetlocks caked in mud and soaking wet by the time she came in, but if your boys a bit more sensible may be worth a try.
I did also find the mud went underneath them around the heel area too.

I'm using Naf mud guard powder. Not used it before this year but several people on the yard swear by it. Various comments on the internet said some horses wouldn't eat it, but my picky mare doesn't seem to mind.
