Hi all I was looking for some famous HHO advice...

Luca seems to come in daily with new cuts and marks on him, being a ginger they really mark and he's starting to look like he gets regular beatings! (I assure you he doesn't) This mornings latest is a cut on his corenet band added to the one at the top of his front leg and on his hock he got over the weekend.

I have checked the field and there is nothing in the field he can be hurting himself on. He is a playful fellow and only turned out with River (who doesnt wear shoes) and my friends gelding who gets a bit grumpy at all the 'play with me' antics...

Sorry for the essay - my question is - does anyone have any suggestions on what i can put on him to protect him a little bit whilst out in the field? I was thinking of turning him out in boots and a lightweight rug (though when I put one on in the rain it was ripped to shreds)

I'm really getting to the end of my rope on this one...

thanks guys

Tori

are they just little nicks or serious damage?

my 3yro is covered in little bite marks and probably has 2/3 new ones every day.
but he is very playful and the horse he is with gets bored after a while and has to nip him to get him to back off!

i don't mind this sort of thing as he is simply being put in his place so i see no need to protect him- if he was being kicked a lot i would move him to another field as you can't cover your horse in armour!

They are not big marks but often have drawn a little blood and have heat in them...

Alongside the worry its also that he seems so thin skinned that every little nick is scarring him - he really does look like he's been in the wars... I understand that a lot of it is his playfullness and not getting the hint - just wanted a way to protect him a little!!!

Bubble wrap? Lots and lots of it??!

Sorry, being facetious

my baby girl has just been introduced to her new herd (cue crazy woman standing in field trying not to bowl on in and join in to try and protect her!!). I've put turnout "socks" on her hind legs just to try and offer her a bit of protection - they are long neoprene boots that come down to under the fetlock joint.

Ideally I wouldn't put anything on her but it's all about weighing up the risks...

As for other parts of his body.. erm.. it'll be rug time fairly soon
