My mare (the oozing wound mare

) has been in for 8 days now 24/7, partially due to box rest and mostly due to snow and ice! all the ice has melted today and the field seems softer.
Shes desperate to get out now, tomorrow is turn out day. Am worried about her bombing round though

the baby coblet and the welshie youngster are nutters in the field at the best of times!
I suppose everyone elses horses will be the same too tommorrow!

Yep!! I am riding tomorrow first time in 12 days I think it is, she is going to be very forward going thats for sure! I'm still not going to turn her out though as I know she will go mental and only want her out for a little while. I'll turn out on Monday for a couple of hours while I sort her stable out. If I leave her out for too long she will totally trash her field.

If you are worried boot your girl up and put an extra rug on for padding!!!

Can you lunge or anything first to take the edge off? I find this helps and at least their muscles are warmed up in case they do go crazy so less likely to pull anything!

When i first got her, after 5 hrs travelling she got out the box, went round the field and just grazed!!
So fingers crossed she may be okay, shes normally very very sensible, its just the coblet am concerned about too

Just be very careful - yourself included, wear gloves, hat etc. A girl at our yard turned her horse out in the arena after a fair few days in and he pushed her over, with what they thought was a fractured pelvis (luckily not), crashed through the gate and galloped accross sheet ice. This horse is normally calm. I'm sure yours won't do the same - just be careful.

We turned all the horses out for the first time in 2 weeks today at work but they all had a good hour on the walker or were ridden first to take the edge off. If she's turned out on her own then give her her breakfast in the field as a distraction from sudden freedom.

Could the cob go out first and then put your horse out half an hour later so hopefully the cob wont be as excited as them both being turned out at same time? Or would that not make a difference? Hope it goes well!
