The hunt is leaving from our yard tomorrow and will probably ride up the lane past Daisy's field on the way out.

YO is worried that she might get stressed about the dogs and suggested leaving her in but I can't decide. She would hate to be left in all day if the others are out

I don't think she's ever hunted so I don't think she would associate the noise with anything exciting and she would have to jump a large five bar gate into a road to get out and join them but she is a little highly strung and prone to charging around.

What would you do?

i would personally keep her in. horses at our yard who have NVER seen/heard/been to a hunt go skitz!! they charge about and come in a sweat/foaming unless we know about the hunt, in which case we will keep them in.

The hunt met from our yard the other week and it is a strict policy that they are all kept in with no exceptions. It is safer and less worry in the long run. Bert is claustrophobic so had the stable and a small yard to keep him out of trouble.

afraid that I would def keep in. My old horse was 40 and still used to go bonkers when the hunt was about and he hadnt hunted for at least 25 years!! why are the others allowed out, would have thought common sense for them all to stay in, esp given ground conditions? at the very least you would want to keep all 4 shoes on surely?

QR. Id keep the horse in. I dont think that it makes a difference that the horse hasnt seen the hunt before. It can still send them loopy.

I would keep her in. Mine always stays in if the hunt are near. Im sure she wont mind being in one day could you let her out in the school later/ Mine stays in most days so im sure she will be fine one day!

i would leave in. last year i went hunting and someone left a pony out in field and it jumped the wall to join in!!!! luckily someone caught it and took it home unharmed

the bloodhounds went from our yard last year and our pony who has never been hunting went a tad loopy, boxwalking, booting the door , calling etc..took her hours to calm down again

i would definatly keep mine in, hector would only try and join in

if she hasnt seen a hunt before it would proberly be unsettling for her, not worth the risk IMO

I wouldn't turn her out. If she was my horse I would try to exercise her in the morning before they arrive...then give her some hay and she should be fine. If she gets excited which my horse used to she might tear around the field and risk herself, your fences and your grass too.

Turn her out half an hour or so after they have gone and she should be fine.

personally i would keep her in,
my mare is very sensible in the field (doesnt even belt about if all her mates are brought in) but i still wouldnt want her out on hunt day.

to much unnecessary risk of her doing herself a mischeif!

I was the only person who didn't turn out today but it was definitely the right decision for her because apparently the hounds went right through her field, that would have completely wound her up.

She was a bit agitated when they came back at the end of the day to leave but can't have been too bad the rest of the day as she had been lying down.
