Anyone got an opinion on my situation. I have a hardy cob marewho is definately ready to be turned out now. But the other yardies will not turn out yet. One is a TB mare with arthritis and the other is a shire gelding. The shire is not turned out in the day in the summer. So this is a non issue my mare has bonded with the tb mare and they like to be together. I don't know what to do. The owner is the TB is a bit of a b&*^&. exceuse my language. She tells me she's leaving out all night so I put my mare out all night, and when I turn up to check on her in the morning I find that the other horse was in fact brought in and my mare has been left alone. I can't work with this woman as she says one thing then without telling me does another. I am trying to lessen the stress on the horses and this woman doesn't give a damn. Trouble is this is now affecting my work as I am getting busier. The owner of the shire says I should just do my own thing and leave out all night as my horse is ready. Any thoughts.
 
Just do what suits you.

If you horse is happy to be on it's own - and will not fuss when other horses are taken out of the field - all well and good.
 
when the other horses are bought in she does charge around the field and a bit sweated up but I am sure she calms down after she knows she is not coming in. . Sounds like a lame question I know but this is my first horse and I want to do the right thing.
 
So really you're not sure what her behaviour is then by the sounds of it.

I would move to a yard where there are lots of horses, and your horse can be turned out with the assurance that there are always other horses in the field.
 
If you think she will be Ok leave her out, Maybe check on her after an hour to make sure she isn't really upset. Mine runs around for a minute and call a couple of times then will calm down. I would make sure the other liveries know exactly what you are doing as then you are covering yourself if they come back at you saying 'I didn't know you were doing such and such..' and make sure its ok with them.
 
Had a similar problem as my mare had to go out alone with no others near as we're currently the only horse on the yard which goes out (the other one's a laminitic pony). Neighbours horses moved away as they had all their fields ripped up & re-done. She ran round 1st time so brought her back in & t/o a bit later when a man was working on neighbours wall & had his radio on. shes been fine ever since - goes charging off when t/o & unless we're early she comes in when yelled for (thank god as field hilly towards gate and has been muddy). I'd do as L-C and check after an hour or so to see if she's settled (but try to creep up without her seeing you if poss.) Hope she settles OK as it makes life a lot easier all round.
