I have a small yard for my three horses and it consists of 2 large stables, a field shelter (probably built as a hay barn) and tack room. I keep all 3 in. . . The perfectly well behaved mare is in the shelter with full bedding and a slip rail.

I have noticed she has become considerably messy and even broken the rail. I think something is coming in at night and disturbing her which may be making her fret: she loves being in and in the day I have no issues

Any ideas of how to make it inaccessible to animals ie a fox?
-Cheapest possible ideas?
-would a gate work, boarded up?

A gate that has been boarded should be perfectly fine. Or just getting another stable door put on. Nothing else would keep anything else out, are you sure there aren't any holes in the walls. I wouldn't have thought a fox would be coming in. I don't know why she would be fretting?

We have a 6ft entrance - so 2ft partition door on left and 4ft "stable" doors on the right. Sorry not very clear pic but hopefully it gives the idea!

I have 2 field shelters used as stables. They each have a 6 foot timber gate on which is lined with solid mesh to stop the getting a foot through. Works really well but wouldn't stop something small getting underneath. I do have wireless cameras though which are brilliant - if you set one up you could see what she is doing :)
