The post further down today regarding DIY livery costs in Yorkshire got me thinking, although I wished it hadn't now.

I've spent over £800 this summer on a horse that has just been sat in a field doing jack all and living the life of riley and that's just 24/7 grazing and his feet doing, without the other costs.

Is that sense or sheer stupidity?

I'm kinda swaying on latter!

Down south we had one with a stable available but actually out 24/7 at ~30pounds/week. So say there are 30 weeks in the summer (optimistic I know!) that would have been 900. With us picking out his tootsies!

Eek!

I pay #30 a MONTH for simple grass livery. Suits the 2yr old down to the ground.

No wonder young horses are so expensive to buy, if people are having to pay that kind of livery for them!

£35 a week on "full" grass livery - checked twice a day, fed, feet picked out, haylage and rugs changed in winter, and worming.

So for 6 months that's £910
