I'm thinking of turning my 16.3 warmblood gelding away for the summer (long story...). He will not be worked at all. Grazing is good, not lush.

He is in full work at the mo (light/medium, mix of hacking and schooling, average around an hour a day) and is in great condition, not fat. He currently gets Top Spec Comprehensive Feed Balancer with chaff but no other short feed.

Would you keep on with the balancer once he's turned away, or stop it? Or change it to something else?

Mine have access to a vit/min lick. Not a molasses one, just a cattle one and also a himalyan rock salt thing. They have no food at all. My 17hh boy looks great on it.

Mine are all on topspec balancer and for the summer I cut it down to about half. That way they are getting some vitamins etc but not costing as much. I find with good grass they feel "too good" on the full amount! As soon as the grass starts dying down or they look as if lacking something they will get the recommended amount again. The only problem would be if using one for joints/ hooves as won't do the job if not getting the proper amount.
