9 month colt managed a choking episode last weekend, fortunately he's now fine. For the first couple of days he wouldn't touch his normal feed (Suregrow) even when soaked but was happy with hay. He's still turning his nose up at the Suregrow and he loved it before; I can get him to eat about half his portion with coaxing but he leaves the rest. Has anyone had the same experience? Did they eventually go back to eating all their feed?

It wasn't even the Suregrow which caused the choke so I can't blame it on association, I thought perhaps he might have been a bit sore but hay goes down ok!

My mare had a couple of choke episodes.

My Vet said that she would be sore for quite a long period of time and to stop hard feed altogether for a few days, when it was offered again it should be very, very wet.

Of course, every situation is different, but perhaps if you didn't offer him feed at all for a few days then when you did he might be more keen on trying it. Make it very wet and add some apple juice/sauce or whatever to encourage him.

Ive dealt with a lot of choke, its pretty nasty to see :( Make sure what your giving him is veerryy sloppy.. you could tempt him with something tasty in it, try Graze On or as Enfys said apple sauce or molasses are good ones.
