Mine are out 24/7 all year the summer field only has natural protection, the winter field has that and a field shelter although I rarely see any horse use it.
Turning out 24/7...

Mine are a bit in-between - they are not in all day, but just for a few hours, usually between about 11.30am and about 5pm, although if it is really hot and lots of flys around then they will be in for longer. Having them in for a few hours allows me to get a couple of feeds and some haylage into my old mare who doesn't hold her weight as much as the others. Also means they are in and ready for riding when daughter comes home from school.

Ours are out 24/7 BUT we do the typical Dutch thing of looking a the Radars and if it shows heavy rain in they all come.
Now this is not because we are mad continental types who believe that horses will melt in the rain but over here with heavy rain you get a pretty good chance of Thunder and lightening.
Obviously as it is so flat and we have no trees in the fields then the highest thing in the field will get struck i.e. the horses so first sign on the radar of heavy rain and in they all come.

Mine comes in about 7 am and gets turned back out about 7 pm and has access to soaked hay while she is in. Works really well for me as it helps keep her weight in check and means she de bloated when i come to ride after work in the evening. We are very lucky that our stables are always in the shade and if there is a breeze it blows in to keep them cool.

We turnout over night but bring them in for at least 4 hours during the day, we dont have a lot of shelter in the fields so this is partly so they can get out of the midday sun and partly so they can have a rest off the grass so they dont get to fat.

My TB is out 24/7 in summer. He occasionally comes in when very hot but not often as he just doesn't want to! No formal shelter but do have big trees which do the job well.

I vote 24/7 with shelter, we have some nice hedges and trees that they can stand under, but if it gets really hot then they come in daytime and out at night, that for 3 of mine, then one is in at night and out in the day with her rather large friend........
