Turning out in boots

My 5yo is off work again having banged her splint bone - AGAIN

She is always getting knocks and scrapes, and being a TB her leg always blows up like a balloon too. I have pretty much decided that she needs to go out in boots, but my concern is that my field is really wet, especially at the gate area. She's a typical thin-skinned TB and I'd really worry about her getting rubs or worse from mud getting inside her boots.

Can't decide which is the lesser of the two evils

and what stye of boots I would turn out in? Sleek as possible to avoid corners and creases that dirt and grit could stick in; or sheepskin lined to try to stop mud getting down them in the first place?

I gave some thought to turnout chaps, but have never actually seen them used. Would they actually protect her from the constant self-harm she seems to enjoy

How long is she out for?

She's out for about 12 hours a day - much to her disgust it has to be said, she prefers a warm and dry stable where her food is literally handed to her on a plate

we turn daughters mare out in clarendon brushing boots.they have sheepskin inside and wash regularly

Hmm I have some clarendons around somewhere, might try those.

I have the premier equine boots for exactly that reason- my tb is always getting knocks on his legs.

They aren't 100% waterproof and take quite a long time to dry out so I wouldn't recommend for really wet or muddy conditions. However, if its muddy I just stick some normal brushing boots on and they tend to not get so dirty and are further off the ground.

Other than that I would say try the equilibrium chaps- either the hardy ones which are more protective or the other chaps which are water resistant and will stop mud getting in
