Turning out on frozen ground?

Mine go out every day -form 7am until about 5pm... at the moment the paddock is bare and frozen, but we put out plenty of hay and the horses are rugged-

... but IMO they are better out have a mooch around in the fresh air than standing in their stables all day---

add to that mine don't really like being left in .....plus the thought of twice daily mucking out horrifies me

Mine have been out during the day on the four days a week they are out. However, the lane is like a skating rink today (an in day) and if still like this tomorrow, they will stay in rather than risk leading them to the field.

Luckily their stables are at the end of the indoor school so they can safely go into the school for a leg stretch and grooming session together.

The actual frozen field is not a problem, mine have big strong legs and are not daft. I also give them hay when out.

All horses at our yard stayed in today, but it is the first time since the freeze started. My 2 will be fine, they seem to know when it's not nice outside!! Left them happily munching and at least I'm able to pop down at lunch time for a skip out and to give them some carrots! School is still frozen, have given up even thinking about riding at the moment

Pidge and Sunny are out in the day. Tennis ball in their water trough, lots of vaseline in their hooves to stop the snow balling up and loads of lovely haylage to keep them occupied.
I must confess to putting a lightweight stable rug on today underneath his mediumweight rug as it was -11.5 at the yard this morning

Mine are still going out as normal as are everyone elses on the yard. Can't ride though as the arena is really frozen and the snow has now frozen on the lane and bridleway and is really slippery.
