With the milder weather forcast this week a couple at my yard are talking about turning out 24/7 at the weekend from being stabled at night.
Im wondering wether to turn out my just turned 2 idxcob or is it too soon.
When do you all throw out for summer,it was mid march last year.

We won't yet as the feilds are still wet. Once it is dryer we will move them to the other field and let them stay out 24/7 and rest their current field. As long as they have good grazing or hay in fields. They will be fine out!

I normally turn out 24/7 when the clocks go forward...can't remember when that actually is though! If you've got the grass OP then why not?

Exactly, the ground dictates when ours go out 24/7. Thankfully this year the ground has stayed dry and so much grass the cattle will have to pull off some before horses munch it

I start when I get my fields done! And this winter of non stop mud since the end of September has taken it's toll. This weekend will see my spray, Harrow, roll, and fert the paddock I've had off for 3 months. Once that's good I will move my gelding and get the 3 other fields done with weather cooperation. Then I won't bevable to kick their butts out fast enough.

Thanks for replys, well theres 10 on 22 acres atm, been on there since about august, but will be going on another shortly,i might give it another week/10 days and go for it depending on forcast then.

my 2 have been having the odd night out here and there when it is milder for a while now

18 month old ID x and his Mum, but they are still getting hay at night they won't stay out 24/7 ful time for a good while yet - EO March begininng of April

Mine are out all year. Just had them in for a while around Christmas when the ground was really wet. If ground is ok mine are out.

Just worrying if the cooler nights would be a shock to her after being in at night since end of nov,i would still give her her usual feed of fast fibre n good doer once a day anyway.

Mine went out 24/7 mid march last year as the weather was so good. I am hoping to do the same this year. I do not have any grass to speak of in my paddocks at the moment and fear if I do put them out too early ( even with hay) it wont give my paddocks much of a chance to pick up. However if I had enough grass and paddocks in good condition then I would cetainly leave mine out.

My two youngsters went out on Friday! The field has been rested for a year so has good covering of grass but dont think there is much goodness yet so they are having hay and still being fed twice a day.

There are 2 of them on a 5 acre field with a double field shelter.

Usually wait until mid march but my fields are dry with grass and its starting to warm up already!
