As from a previous post i have a 3yr old that has been broken for a while now. And im going to turn her away in a couple of weeks after she has done a bit more riding. How long do you turn your youngsters away for?? Obviously i dont want to leave it too long so she forgets what she has learnt. Also would she need re-schooling after her break?

The last two years my then just gone 4 year old has had winters off mostly because she was a real baby the first winter and I was pregnant the second. She's come back into work easily both times and I think it's less about re-schooling as continuing the education process. Mine never finish schooling so never get 're-schooled' really.

i'd give her at least a few months since she's still growing. i've turned youngsters away before and when i've started riding them again it's as if they've been schooling themselves, they've improved so much in their way of going purely through growing, strengthening up, natural improvement of balance etc.

I'd say it depends on the individual horse.
I turned a pony away, and am now wishing i didnt! (i think she is a lot worse than when she 1st started! today, our battle was..... to get the bridle on.... she acts a prat when i walk towards her with a saddle, yet the second its on her back, shes fine, lets you do the girth up etc, she is just being a b@tch and trying it all on!)
