Hey All. After a field accident with my previous thoroughbred that put him on box rest repeatedly, I've become really paranoid about my new ex racers legs in the field!! What boots are you guys using. I find most turnout boots tend to help with issues such as mud fever more than protection. I know a set of 4 brushing boots/tension boots with overreach boots are popular, or a set four 4 leg wraps. What are your thoughts? I really don't want another field accent. Please tell me your bests brands/types!!

Thanks Everyone!

Not the answer you are looking for but I would be more concerned about the damage to tendons from overheating in boots than any impact injuries. Having said that, I have in the past used Woofwear mud fever boots which allow some airflow and have a reinforced brushing pad plus neoprene overreach type protection but you really need 2 sets so you aren't creating rubs by putting on wet, dirty boots every day.

If its of any interest I've got a brand new still in box pair of Woof Wear mud fever boots. I bought them for my TB at the start of the year but sadly lost him so no longer need them.

My now no longer with us RoR used to wear boots in the field but I can't remember what they were and they probably aren't made any longer. I had a couple of pairs to ensure always had clean dry ones to put on. They probably were mud fever ones although they weren't used for that but did come well down over the fetlock area. He got on with them fine.
