I think there's some in the robinsons catalogue I dont know if they work but would be intrested to see what people say as my boy gets scabby legs through the winter.
I have two different makes of turnout boots. I have Premier Equine ones for my very accident prone youngster and Equilibrium Close Contact ones for my cob who is very prone to mud fever.
I find them very good and they even come in medium wide which is the perfect size for my boy. They can sometimes slip down if not done up tight enough (think that was because we clipped his legs so they were a bit big though!).
I wouldn't hesitate to get another pair of Equilibrium ones for a horse with mud fever.
I had the Equilibrium ones and they were terrible, mud came up into them from the bottom and then they rubbed. I now use Muddy Marvel barrier cream and my mare hasn't had mud fever since (4 years).
DO NOT USE THEM IF YOUR HORSE HAS ANY SUGGESTION OF MUD FEVER!! As it will make it a million times worse. Also do not use them 24hrs! Make sure they are clean and dry before every use. I think they are a great product so long ad they are used and applied correctly. Don't think they will do any good or even stay on if you have knee deep mud either! Can you tell I've seen people using them badly?!!
I was looking at the Equilibrium ones but did wonder about them slipping & mud getting in from the bottom - That would surely create mud fever & then you would be back to square one again!
Faracat - I have some Muddy Marvel products!! Not the cream but I have the de-scab and the disinfect I haven't used them yet though..
Not sure whether it is worth getting some boots or just creaming his legs? He wont be going out if the fields go to thick mud! But after the rain today his field got a bit boggy! (and he pulled a shoe!)
