What sort of time roughly do your horses go out and come in?

I'm just about to start bringing mine in at night again, and I've been thinking about trying to get into a routine, the thing is I like to get them out ASAP, but then equally I am more likely to get them done if I do it in the morning before turning out. Also a lot of the time I don't end up doing much is because I want to get the house straight after school run etc.

So I'm thinking about mixing it up a little and giving them breakfast about 9. Which then means I can go back in and straighten the house out have brunch then exercise about 10ish, then turn them out, but not get them back in until about half 8.

Sorry boring post... But it just all goes around in my head otherwise.
 
In the winter, mine goes out about 6.30am and comes in between 3-4pm Monday-Friday.

On a weekend I am usually at the yard for about 9 am on a normal day, but often ride first thing.

But, I am on a livery yard and restricted by work - if I didn't work, he wouldn't go out so early!
 
Normally mine go out about 8.30 but sometimes a bit later then come in around 5.30-6.00 everyday all year round but once I get driving again they will go out a hour earlier
 
I do similar to your proposal OP - mine are at home which makes it easier to do 'split-shifts' with them though.

Fed and skipped out at about 7, left with hay whilst I have breakfast/do house jobs, exercise when the school-run is over then turn out mid-morning until they are ready to come in in the evening. I fit in mucking out where I can during the day around work etc.

I find they are quite settled with this routine. With some organisation it also doesn't disrupt the day too much if we have farrier/vet/physio etc visits - just try to get morning appointments where possible.
 
Fed and out by 7.00 and in at around 3.30 as a winter routine during the week. Worked evenings, unless hacked for me during the week. Fed around 7.30 at the weekends and then worked.
 
My Boy goes out about 6 am and comes in about 7.30pm at the min, unless I ride in the eve then its about 6.30pm. He has to go out so early as I leave for work at 7am. In winter he will go out about 6.30 am then I will pop home at lunch and bring him in about 12.30.
 
Mine has 2lbs of hay at 7am and I usually ride at 7.30 and muck out. He has another 2lbs of hay at 11am and goes out at 12. I bring him in at 5ish, dinner and 2lbs of hay at 7pm and then 4lbs of hay and last muck out at 10pm.

I prefer riding in the morning as there are fewer midges and the horse isn't bloated from grass.
 
Thanks everyone I'm gonna give it ago, I would do them first thing but we get up at 6 so I can take hubby to work.

They have just come in for first time in weeks, boy do I feel relaxed tonight knowing they are in.
 
Mine goes out around 6am (sometimes before, sometimes after) and comes in around 5pm, if it wasn't for my long commute or if I had enough money to pay someone I'd have him out 9-4ish :rolleyes:
 
Mine is currently out 24/7, but once we start bringing in again I will be down at the yard at 9.30am, ride (4 times per wk), turnout, muck out and then bring in again before dark. Usually October it's in 5pm and then gets earlier as the light goes, I always try to get in while it is light, this can be as early as 3.30pm in the depths of winter.
 
On 'winter' turnout (from end of OCt, our yard turns out at 6.30am on a weekday and 7.30 on a weekend and bring in is anywhere between 4.30 and 6.30 depending on the light (they all go out and come in together) :)
 
Winter . . . out anywhere between half eight and ten depending on whether he's being ridden in the morning - in by 3 p.m.

Summer . . . out at the same time but doesn't come in until 5'ish.

I'd prefer him to be out 24/7 in the summer but fieldmates won't and that would mean he was on his own (which he just doesn't do).

My lad goes out at 5.30am and back in from between 6.30 and 7.30pm. All year round. But that is mainly because I am up early every day to cram everything in and I like him to have lots of tunout time.
 
My old boy is out overnight all year round. In summer he comes in about 8.30/9am and goes back out about 6-7pm (or a bit later, depending on if he's ridden). In winter he'll come in anywhere between 10am and midday, and goes back out about 6pm. He's arthritic and this regime suits him far more than a lot of time stabled.

The new one, 6yo, will be stabled overnight soon (currently still on overnight turnout). I'm hoping I'll get him out for about 7.30am then he'll come in anywhere between 2 and 4pm I think. Not sure yet, depends on YO and the ground/weather really. He doesn't care if he never goes out so he'll be fine on just a few hours of turnout, plus he'll be working hard all winter (hunting, loads of hacking to keep him fit enough, some DR) so not as though he's stuck in for hours without work.
 
Roughly out at 6am and in at 6pm give or take a quarter of an hour or so. I like them out for as long as possible but this routine also fits in with my working week.
 
Our horses are out by seven-eight pm at night in the summer and in between 7-8am the following morning. In the winter the horses on our yard are normally out by 9 and in anytime after 3pm but some of the DIY people leave theirs out until they arrive after work which is what I used to do. I like my horse out as much as possible and if I could I think I'd like him out in the summer months 24/7 but its not always feasible especially with the flies during the day. I think a minimum of 12 hours a night in the summer and 6 hours in the winter is okay, certainly no less that that though, horses were made to live out and its the best place for them even though my horse would prefer his bed most of the time! Its also better as it keeps their joints moving if they suffer from arthritis and their guts healthy if they are on the move or tend to suffer with colic.

In the summer I used to keep my horse in the night before a show and still do if the times for the event are very early or I need to travel a distance.

I am also struggling to obtain free shavings now, and with the cost of decent shavings bales reaching the £8 mark, trying to keep a minimum of clean bed whilst your horse is in more is a total nightmare. I hate the winter. I try to leave it till the end of September to turn around and just put thicker rugs on.

I've just started bringing mine back in at night for a couple of nights a week too :)
Mine are usually fed out for 6am (due to work commitments) ... then back in around 5.30
 
One of my lot is stabled, and he and all my liveries are out by 7am at the latest, with all mucking out finished by then too.

Generally they live out in summer, but in the winter they come in not earlier than 6:30pm.
