I've got some Sportabac long turn out socks and some Equilibrium close contact chaps. The latter are really fiddly to put on and take off with cold hands. They both do the job of keeping the horses legs clean and dry. You almost need 2 sets per horse though as you have to clean them overnight. I only use them if it's really muddy - I just grease the horses legs otherwise.

i use the equlibrium close contact. they are fab in the damp weather as keep legs squeaky clean but when the fields become a bog i dont use them as find that some mud does get up underneath and then keeps the mud close to the leg and warm and moist. perfect conditions for bacteria! also then have to wash their legs anyway.
But saying that the equilibium are the best on the market!

I agree that greasing them is possibly the best way to keep out any the wet I just hate the mess of doing it
