Turnout for show classes

I'm going to a local show next week - eeek! I have rashley entered the riding club horse class and the ridden middleweight hunter class

Can anyone help me with the tack/turnout that is expected in each class and what bits are allowed and so on.

Riding club will need to be a snaffle bridle and middle weight hunter can be double or pelham.
Both best off being plain tack, no coloured browband.
PLaited and no boots!
 
As it's only a local show I wouldn't worry too much. I would wear a tweed/hacking jacket.
It would probably look smartest if you are able not to use a numnah. If you do need to use a numnah, then make sure it is a dark colour (black/brown) and with the minimal amount visible as possible.
I would expect double bridles to be most common in the hunter class. Other alternatives are pelhams or snaffle. Not sure what you usually ride in. Not sure about RC horse class, I guess a snaffle would be best?

bits - choose from pelham double or snaffle for hunter.

RClub i think is better in snaffle? although any of above usually appears too.

was at a local show yesterday and horse won the hunter class in a snaffle.

no numnah or as limited on view as poss - same colour as horse as poss.

plain girth to match horse colour if you can.

you just need a tweed, cream type coloured breeches, plain coloured hat/silk. collared shirt and tie and tie pin if poss.
hair in a hair net. brown gloves or similar. show cane if you can.

At locals pretty much anything goes sometimes. just pay attention to the details and make the most of what you do have, don't stress about what you dont too much.
tack should be sparkly clean, nice plaits - sewed in looks better (i still cant do this after loads of much practice :-( )
painted clean hooves. trimmed hairy bits. pulled and nice length tail.

check the schedule, if the judge is going to ride make sure your stirrup irons are wide enough and your leathers have lots of holes for little and big people. its not often they do ride and locals but some they do so you should be prepared.

Chestnuts are the best so im sure you will do great :-) have fun try and get some pics for us to see!
 
now bearing in mind it is just a local show will I be ok if I just wear a black jacket as it's all I have, and in the riding club class will I be allowed to wear my body protector and have a neck strap? It's just I'm a bit nervous about the jumping, I really don't mind coming last I just don't want to make a fool od myself!!
 
Does George normally wear a martingale? you can use that for riding club class instead of a neck strap. to be correct you need a Tweed jacket for hunter class rather than black

yes black jackets are normally worn at locals as not everyone has a tweed. im sure it will all be fine - i did a RC/PC pony class at the w/end and there wasnt a jump just a pole to trot over, i was a bit dissapointed as thats the only bit we can do properly!! One lady did not include the pole in her individual show i think as she was nervous. good luck you will be fine!!
 
All the advice above is great, just wanted to say have fun! Is it the IBRC indoor show at Writtle you're going to? I used to do that on college horses when I studied there. Be aware that in the hunter class the judge will ride you George, unless this has changed from when I did it.

Edited to include, you might want to take someone with you as you will probably have to run up inhand as well so will need help in the ring removing his saddle and giving him a brush down. I know this all sounds a bit serious for a RC show but I think the IBRC comp is a qualifier for the Festival of the Hunter (it used to anyway!) If you're not sure just give someone at the riding club a ring, I know a few people at the riding club and they're lovely and will be happy to help

Yes it is the show at Writtle. I'm not too worried about the judge riding George, they will probably make him go better than I can!! I'm more worried about getting on again after getting off!!! Honestly I do enjoy it, I just like to panic and worry before hand!!
 
If someone goes in with you they can take in a grooming box hat will double as a step, then it'll be nice and easy to mount up again. Can't wait to see your pics - if any of the college students have a chestnut gelderlander in the class called Rudi, say hello to him for me!

If you have no one to help in your hunter class, just collar someone else's groom for a leg-up!!
In RC horse, you need to do a small show, keep it short eg figure of eight in trot and canter with a simple change through trot, an extended canter behind the line-up showing how easily your horse pulls up at the end (!) if you want. Usually the jumping is minimal and optional ie one or two jumps. Also tell the judge you do every discipline at RC level (if you do) as they are looking for an easy and well-schooled all-rounder.
