Last year I had a bit of a problem with some of my rugs rubbing my pony's mane away. I can't put my finger on which rug it is and the others all fit perfectly, so I decided to invest £75 on a turnout snuggy hood..Other than it fitting on the head, around the neck and body it was ridiculasly baggy, and when I went to take it off the zipper fell off straight away.

So hoping to get my money back from that and had a quick browse on the internet at others.

Whats your opinion on the ones which also cover the face like this:

That's actually the 1 I just bought, but I've just been told that they can cause very nasty accidents if they slip and fall over the eyes?

I'm just wondering your opinion on this, or if anyone knows any bibs which go all the way up to the top of the neck or round the ears or anything, that would do the same job?

Thanks

I have a snuggy hood for my black and white (but mostly white!) cob and it was fine all winter and didn't slip at all over his eyes. He has very big shoulders and it was even a bit baggy on him although snug on the head. He wore it all winter and was out 24/7. They are quite expensive but saved me hours on grooming etc. I'm going to get a second one this year so I can clean one and he can wear the other.Snuggy hoods do offer an alteration service so you can get the perfect fit.

The zipper fell off too as soon as I opened it! I was rather disappointed because I'd heard so many good things about them. Thanks though

I thought about buying one of these for the very same reason, Ludo ends up looking half bald by mid winter! HOWEVER, I was reading a review of hoods in a recent edition of Your Horse (can't remember which one) and one of the comments said it rubbed the main when worn with a neck cover. Didn't see the point of forking out over £70 for it not to work!

Very simple - keep neck uncovered, believe it or not your horse will not perish -even clipped they have fur!

I had the same problem last year, so this year she will only have her neck cover on in extreme cold or wet.

I have some snuggy turnout hoods and not had a problem with them slipping at all....they have washed and worn well...have you contacted snuggy as they normally very helpful and will have back to repair from what I have heard.

I have ridden native ponies and my connemara who is a recent addition has a very fine mane and I will not risk a neck cover or hood on him out in the field so will have to put up with the mud. Invested in a snuggy with ears for him in the stable which he will wear the night before a show as he lies with his head in poo as a pillow
