Can anyone please tell me if you can turnout in snuggy hoods? If so what happens when it rains or are they water repellant? If not what else can I use? Cant find anything else but the neck attachment to the rugs....

I have a grey mare and already finding that she likes to ground the mud right into her neck face etc etc

thanks

I've used Snuggy turnout hoods for years! They do seem to be water repellant as mine come in dry and mud free!!!

My only problem last year was that I didn't wash the hood often enough and my horse is particularly greasy, the grease built up and rubbed his mane out.......so the lesson is make sure you wash it!!!

Great hoods tho!!!

snuggyhood user here, part of the year because of sweetitch and other times because of mud.

they are made of one of the types of fabric
that, when you get it out of the washing machine it feels nearly dry and ready to use.they feel a bit damp on the horse when it rains but the horses body heat soon dries it if you see what i mean,it doesn`t hold wetness.

wouldn`t be without mine(i have 2 actually.

Ditto what Cahill said, I bought one for my wallowing hippo of a horse about 2 years ago as our fields get really wet and we've got clay soil. Wish I'd got one sooner!
I just stick mine in the washer every couple of weeks and hang it up to dry in the stableover night.
Would definitely recommend getting one with the zip and ears - well worth the extra ££

I've also got two also turnout hoods and wouldn't be without them. It's a lot of outlay but well worth it. I've used their repair service too and it's really resonable.

I usually have one hood on him and one in the wash. He's got a very long mane (which I want to keep!) and I find it doesn't rub out if I can keep the mane clean and then use a good quality mane spary to keep it silky. The hood then glides over it and it doesn't snag a pull it out.

Go for zips and ears too. I don't have problems with mud in the zip like you might think and they're so much easier to put on (for both of you!) as the non zip ones can sometimes be a bit too snug.
