Those of you on a livery yard. When your horse is turned out, how many horses is yours out with? and how big is the field?

Also would you disregard a livery yard if it only allowed your horse to be out for a maximum of 14 hours a day (you can choose day or night) in the summer? instead of 24/7?

Thanks.

in summer I get 24/7.
Winter I get as long as I like so long as I don't trash the field (so I have to use my own judgement, usually do it as one day in one day out). Winter field is an acre, sole use. Summer is about 10 acres, between 4 horses and one midget.

One of my horses goes out in a lush field with two others and the other one goes out in a horrible muddy field with at least 13 others, and this is on the same yard...
I don't really let mine out for more than three-four hours a day especially in summer when the grass is rich, they need to keep fit cause they event. But I wouldn't discount the yard your talking about. 14 hours is a long time and horses will probably want to come in for a bit anyway, mine love coming in after a couple of hours (maybe their just people horses, love adult company)
I would def consider the yard, just make sure that the facilities suit both yourself and the horses, and that you can get them in a good rroutine..

Sorry i should say this is the yard im planning to start this year. So im just asking you all on your opinions on different stuff like turnout.

So its really helpful getting all of your views!

Mine is allowed out 24/7in the summer, but I only turn her out at night as there isn't any shelter and she get sunburn. She goes out on her own, she did have a gelding as a companion, but they kept shagging and Sparks started coming in with kicks and bites, so she is back on her own and he is out with the geldings. In the winter she goes out for about 6hrs per day, as starts hanging round the gate after that.

I know, she certainly wasn't brought up to behave like that!!!! Can't even blame the gelding and she was seen on more than one occasion running backwards into him!!!

The yard im on there is only about 7 of us but i suppose its still a livery of sorts!! I have a two acre field to myself and my friends pony that i can do as i please with. They provided a field just for us as Inky is too small to go out with the others. In summer they will be out 24/7 (depending on how much grass he stuffs into his belly! ) We can use the field all winter if we want its the "its yours do what you want with it, if it gets trashed just dont ask for any more". Its not to bad using it in winter because there is too much grass anyway. They get rolled and treated sometime around now anyway.

My horse is in a field with 4 other geldings, the field must be at least 2.5/3 acres. Have to say single sex turnout was really important to me and low numbers!

We are allowed out 24/7 1st May - 1st October (and longer if weather permits). I have to say I wouldn't go somewhere that didn't allow 24/7 turnout in the summer, I love my horse being allowed to live out naturally and I know how he loves it.

1 1/2 acres she has horses all around her and lots going on but has her boundaries so knows she isn't sharing. I won't write a book but she has become a lovely horse since she's been in this environment

My girl is allowed out 24/7, if you imagine an 8 acre field with a big cross in the middle of it, she has one of the quarters, so a 2 acre field to herself, unrestricted in the winter and sectioned off in the summer or she would eat until she falls over

There's supposed to be 3 in my field, but the horses are perfecting their field hopping skills just now, so there's usually just 2 (or 3, but the wrong 3

). Their field is about 13 acres, but I'm going to cut this down for the summer, hopefully into a 2 acre paddock for Chex if I can borrow a ton of sheep to eat the grass. I couldn't be on a yard where they had to stay in in the summer, spending all winter mucking out and being exhausted is enough!

My horses were out with about 18 others but the YO decided it would be easier if we had our own field for our 6. It is probably about 6 acres split into a small field with 2 in and a larger field with 4 in. They live out 24/7 summer and winter, although the 2 in the smaller field tend to stay in at the weekend as they compete.

The horses down nearer the yard have to come in at night in the winter but there are no set turnout hours. They go out every day without fail and are out 24/7 in the summer.
