Surprise, surprise, Hermosa's rainsheet, bought last winter, no longer fits her ridiculous Spanish neck and shoulders. Blah. Young horses....

I've found that there are a limited number of rugs that do fit. Swish wide fit, but the lightest they make is a 50g. I'll be buying one, but I need a 0g as well. I bought her a Rambo Optimo fly sheet this summer, which fits, and I thought I'd just get her the rainsheet version of that. Looked for it online, and holy Jesus, they are expensive. Yikes! But does anyone know if the fit of the rainsheet is similar to the fly sheet?

The people on the PRE FB group recommended Bucas, so I had a look at them. They have one specifically designed for breeds like PREs, or so they say. Also expensive but about £100 less than Rambo. But I have no idea if she would be 5'9 or 6' in it or if it would fit at all. Do these run big or small? Anyone know?

Any other suggestions? Lottery tickets?

Not tried one on a Spanish, but a brand that can fit a surprising number of big-fronted native ponies is Gallop. They are affordable for growing and/or vandalistic youngsters too.

Have you tried the shires highlander sheets? They are wider and do 0g upwards.

Swish rugs are also good for chunky types they do a wider version too. I love swish rugs I’ve got loads they are excellent quality!

Bean wears a 5ft9 in a bucus, the big horse company and ruggles are good too as they do extra wide shoulders on smaller sizes.

My super wide PRE xTB only fits in the ruggles, tempest, premier equine and weirdly the old derby house rugs. She splits everything else on the shoulder.

Try Sheldon, I hadn’t heard of the brand until I had one from my local feed store. I had a big ShireX and they fitted his broad shoulders perfectly.

And Shires were always wide enough too.

Amigo XL possibly although still spendy! They do work with liners at least so you can vary the weight whilst just having one outer.

Yes the fit is the same as the other optimo rugs. Size down in the optimo turnout, they come up big. and yes they are expensive but they last forever so worth the investment. I bought mine second hand where the price is much more reasonable.

I had awful problems finding a fly rug that wasn't to tight on cobs shoulders and he also has some wither, I had bought 4 or 5 that were too tight. After scats recommended Shires tempest I bought one and it is a brilliant fit so worth looking at their turnouts? Rambo and Premier Equine fly rugs were awful on him.

Eta, he doesn't appear to be particularly chunky but 90% of rugs I've tried are too tight on his shoulders
