I have two rugs, less that one year old, that have both fallen apart . My Amigo l/w turnout is leaking all along the back and my Shires m/w turnout has all the inside lining wripping apart. Both rugs cost me over £45 each so I am really not happy. Could anyone recommend a turnout rug that has not let them down as I am really stuck on what rugs to buy next!

I am just about to buy one ready for the winter for my new boy and everyone at my yard swears by Mark Todd rugs, not too expensive and seem to be really waterproof and tough.

I have had a fair number of Horseware Ireland rugs, inc. several of their Amigo rugs & have never known one to leak, ever!
If it is leaking that badly, I would possibly consider contacting the manufacturer, as this is extremely unusual for these rugs!

At the cheaper end of the market, I would say Amigos are many peoples' first choice & H.I. rugs generally are the most waterproof I've come across & I'm really fussy! lol
It does sound as though it may have a manufacturing fault? (Providing of course, it hasn't actually been 'damaged', which is causing it to leak!)

My daughter's previous cob however, was a total troll, yet even with little rips all over it, his Amigo l/w still never leaked as such!

Agree with Jak, my Amigo T/O rugs are great and have never leaked even in the monsoon season that we are currently experiencing!

Other than the that I have a Premier Equine rug that has never leaked, but this is a heavyweight so no idea about the lightweights.

I would normally recommend Amigo actually (that said, I bought a new one to replace old this winter and the quality isn't as good as the first I bought 3 years ago)!

Have Belstaine which is ok, nice fit but neck cover is crap. Also have Mark Todd which is nice, warm and waterproof, but only really seems to fit if you have a huge cob type horse! the neck cover comes down nearly to my horses' eyes!

I'd have said go for Horseware rugs too. I have the rhino rugs and they're fab. I found shires leaked though (not just a ltle bit either!), but the rhino has never leaked once. I'd send the amigo back to horseware as JAK said, as they're usually so good.

I would still happily recommend Horseware Ireland rugs though lea!

Little Black One's current main rug is a Rambo Duo, which took him all through autumn & winter & he was snug, happy & dry the entire time he wore it!
Has a l/w (100g) outer & a 300g inner, to make a really cosy 400g h/w for winter. I also bought him the 100g inner (you can get a 200g one too), to make a 200g autumn rug. It comes with a neck piece as standard.

LBO is a sec B, so built like a mini TB & the Duo's style fits him spot on!
MD's cob was a hulking great brute of a pony & he fitted happily into a Rhino Wug.
The Baggage wears Weatherbeeta as these fit her best generally & I have mainly found these to be more than adequately waterproof, as long as you steer clear of the cheaper Saxon ones!

I have never been that keen on Shires rugs & they are only marginally better than Masta, which are quite possibly, the most un-waterproof rugs out there!
Mark Todd & Fal are also good I believe, though I haven't used these so much to be honest!

Weatherbeeta for me...does exactly what it says on the tin!!! Have had mine for four years now and good as new when washed and water proofed each year...never leak or rip.

I have got a Light weight Amigo and it has been excellent.I also bougt a cheap saxon light weight T/O that has been surprisingly robust too. It's perfect for summer turn out and is on about its 4th season i think!

I agree, my Amigo is excellent. There are 2 types of summer Amigo's though. One is 600D and the other is 1000 or 1200 denier. I got the latter as I have found all my less denier rugs have always leaked! So mine doesnt leak, but saying that, its in its second summer now and does begin to leak if its absolutely bucketing it down which it didnt before. But my boy shivers with anything more than a shower (even when dry underneath) so he has to have a MW on then anyway!

For winter rugs I use Weatherbeetas. Brilliant rugs. Only now does my very first WB turnout (4 years old now) start to look a little worn, and thats after being worn pretty much 24/7 every winter! Ive also liked FAL's as well - never ever had my FAL leak. I dont like the cheapest WB though, the Landa. It leaks!
