I'm looking for a turnout rug with a neck cover that has elastic at the top of the neck, do they exist?!

I have a Ruggles no fill with elastic at the neck near his ears. I didn’t realise how much I like that feature until I bought another rug without it.

Thank you! I will have a look, I have a horse with sweet itch and there are still a few midges here but it's not fly rug weather so thought an elastic neck rug would be a good option as his normal neck rug slides down his neck

Premier equine do them and the neck covers can also be used on other rugs. Expensive if they're not in the sale though.

As above PE and Ruggles. I used to leave my horses SI rug on under his turnout though. It worked, kept him clean and saved buying new rugs.

Actually the elastic just shapes them though really it won’t hold them up, it’s not that tight.

What about the Weatherbeeta with a fleece neck bit. That’s tight round the top, I’d honestly just use your Sweetitch rug underneath though.

I was thinking that but worried he would get too hot in two rugs, the weather is odd at the moment one minute cooler the next warm, one-day we have midges the next none!

MudRugs have elastic round the top of the neck. It's not tight though, it just stops the neck sliding down too much or folding back on itself. I have found that their necks are rather generous in length - if you have a stumpy necked cob or pony they will look quite hilarious. The rugs work a treat though.

There's also the snuggy hood turn out hood. If you get a zipped one it can be quite close fitting and is mud / shower proof.

Weatherbeata comftitec have a zip on fleece elasticated bit you can put on/ remove. I've never actually used them. It wouldn't stop the neck sliding down, the elastic would need to be pretty tight to do that, surely? I think it's to keep wind and rain out. But the Weatherbeata neck piece doesn't slide down anyway.

I have a Ruggles one. The neck is quite generous on it, to the point my cob sometimes tucks his lugholes into the neck. It amuses me no end! Not sure it would be effective against midges, as there is still quite an opening.

Amber has the same rug and does the same and I'm sure its deliberate. It's her favourite as she can either hunker down so ears and forehead are in the neck and the body comes down to her knees or expand out into sports mode so knees, forehead and ears are free to breathe, and she can run around like a loon. Its so obvious YO has commented on it as well.

My pony has sweet itch and I tried the Ruggles rugs. I can't say that it really made that much difference. The neck doesn't go all the way up to the ears, and the cover isn't that tight, so they can still get bitten. I've thought of trying a Snuggy Hoods neck cover with a neck less turn out. The winter neck covers are meant to be shower proof so I thought it might keep the worse off.
