Looking for a 50g liner to pop under my pony's zero fill turnout rug now that it's getting colder! However, I am worried that the liner may slip. I am aware that I can clip it on to the turnout rug via fillet string attachment, but will this be enough to keep it secure? I don't think my turnout rug has anything I can attach the liner to around the front area. Turnout rug is a weatherbeeta classic combo. Or is it best to just get a 50g turnout? Am I overthinking this?

Any suggestions welcome, thanks ?

I use liners, i have some rugs that have the neck straps and some don’t. I’ve never had a problem with them moving on those that don’t.

Maybe I just have a slippery wiggly old horse! I've had trouble putting a Horsewear liner under a WB rainsheet. While I attached the clips at the back to the filet string D's and did up the front of the liner, it didn't have the velcros on each side of the wither [because of course, why would competitor horse brands design anything that was universally compatible? Its like effing train track gauges.] So the liner kind of slipped sideways around his neck.

It certainly would make things much easier!

I'm thinking, if it does end up slipping, that I could DIY some velcro patches on my other side of liner and turnout and see if that works.

Not all of mine attach to the front and never move and I use a variety of different brands, derby house ones are reduced at the moment I have a 50g one of there's and they are good quality and value for money.

Thinner turnouts will always slip more than a heavy rug so I tend to buy my thin turnouts with the loops at the top of the rug so it will attach, heavier rugs don't move so much so it's not so important.

When my Rambo rugs have them, I always attach a liner to both the front and rear attachments, but tbf the liners don't slip on my oldest Rambo which doesn't have front attachments. I'm going up and down the liner range from 100g to 300g via a 250g varilayer liner atm depending on the horse.

Where I do need to use the fronts is for the airmax liners, which do tend to pull back otherwise.

Ended up buying the derby house 50g! Glad to hear that they are good quality. Hope it arrives soon amid another batch of postal strikes...

Daft question for liner users as I'm new to this game...

Are they mostly universal in fit? As in would I need to buy Amigo for Amigo and so on? If they're not, how do you adapt them to clip at the rear, or do you not bother (if the horse is not athletic, which mine isn't!)?

If it doesn't have a loop at the front for you to put the turnout rug front clip through, you can always sew one on.

I've used a section of old sock in the past because I am lazy and I have them around. Folded it a few times to make sure the sock element is strong enough to resist pony teeth and granny-stitched it to the bib/liner.

Yep, another who has used without attaching at the front. At the moment one liner in mine isn’t attached, because I’ve had to layer with the 100g and 200g liner now it’s colder (why buy another liner when you’ve got ones that add up to the right weight right?!).

It’s only been a few days but fingers crossed seems to be working fine!

I've used them for years without attaching them at the front and under a variety of weights turnout and stable rugs with a variety of weight liners and never had a problem with them slipping. Thats with three different brands of liners too. I've even put a combination of liners on and just hook them all on the back and do them up at the chest and they're still ok.

always always clip at the rear - else they will definitely slip.
Most rugs have D rings at the back for the leg straps or fillet string so you can clip to that.
It’s the front that doesn’t really need attaching.

Fab, will definitely do this if it does end up slipping!

I love them when mine come in I just take the turnout off and put a cosy quilt on top so they never have a cold rug put on there backs so easy, I wash mine every week so they are nice and clean on the skin and it stops grease build up on the inside of the turnouts so I just clean the outer get most of the mud off then just spray with fabsil most years and they stay waterproof and save on cleaning and re proof costs.

That's interesting. The liner that slipped on my old gelding was an airmax.
