I have a 16.2hh (approx) ful TB. Needs to gain a lot of weight yet - as not long out of racing.

Anyone rec turnouts to fit full TB's well. Iam looking for Med weight high neck. Med weight full neck & heavy weight full neck.

Been looking at makes.....

Bucas,
Horseware - Amigo, Rhino & Rambo,
Fal,
Pessoa,
Weatherbeeta,
Mark Todd

Any experience with these turnouts and TB's please tell!

Rhino Wugs every time for me. They fit well around the chest and neck and aren't too heavy either but incredibly warm and I've never had one leak. Rambo are very good too. Both of those suit TB types IME.

I like the amigos, also use weatherbeetas alot (love the massive tails flaps some of them have, not wet bottoms!)
but love the slumberdown range from fal!

pretty much any rug make will fit a tb you start to struggle to get them fit with the heavier horses.

Ted has a amigo which he likes, a rambo wug which he struts his stuff in and another one which is broke lol.

I find the Rambo's fit thoroughbreds well whereas my chunkier types wear Fals as they seem bigger in the shoulder

sorry but this is not true with my 16.1 tb i had weatherbeeta's that rub all his withers and shoulders, i used masta's and mark todds they are the best for him. never had a leak from either and they keep him nice and warm.

To be honest I have found very few rugs that have failed to fit my horse properly. The only two being a Robinsons rainsheet and a Reatherbeeta fly sheet that are too tight around her chest. Bar that I can't complain about any of my rugs and I have Mark Todd, a few Robinsons rugs, some Weatherbeeta and a Loveson.

The best fit I have found for my 2 full TB's has been the Amigos - they now have a full wardrobe each of just Amigo and have no rug rubs and stay warm and dry. Would also recommend Weatherbeeta for Tbs though they rubbed my horses manes.

My personal preference is a Bucas. I wouldn't say the fit on my TB ex racer is 100% amazing but it doesn't rub, move, restrict him or leak! The new rugs have changed in shape a little from the old Bucas, but my original rug is in the region of 5+yrs old! He wears it as an outdoor and stable rug and I think they are brilliant. I bought him a new Bucas for this coming winter which has a full neck attachment and the design is good - velcro locking attachment for minimal lumps and bumps. I also like them because they seem to regulate temperature well and breathe.

Not had experience of any of the other rugs really. Not keen on Masta. Did have a weatherbeeta orican which I liked but it didn't get that much use as it was massive, but chap I sold it too really liked it for his TB.

Hope that helps!

Ive got an old, high withered skinny TB x . Most of my rugs are Wetherbeetas and ive never had one rub.

Horseware rugs.

I have a full tb with long high withers and very narrow and they are the only and i mean ONLY rugs that fit her.

I have tried...

weatherbeeta - huge around the chest
masta- worse than useless huge all over
mark tood- far far to big around the chest and neck.

I have a fal slumberodwn but its not as good a fit as my horseware rugs- i have amigos and rhino and wouldnt so much as considering buying anything else.

The reason they fit TB types so well is they fit up around the neck better and are smaller cut around the frount which is where the other brands fall down and they are bigger and slide back behind the long high withers and pull on the chest.

Used to love rhino wugs for my old TB but to tight for my warmbloods around the chest. Have converted to weatherbeetas for them as more roomy so might be to big for TBs. Guess what I am trying to say is Rhino wugs for TB s but not weatherbeeta's.

I have a 16HH TB mare with big shoulders/chest although she only takes a 6ft. Weatherbeeta are a fantastic fit on her and she has practically their whole range! Amigo (although their LWs come up small), Rambo and FAL all fit her well too.

My TB gelding is 16.3hh and has big withers. He was underweight when I got him and wore 6ft rugs but now 6ft3/6ft6. Amigo are a good fit on him and he has a few weatherbeeta rugs too.

I think it's really just trial and error unfortunately as it makes it rather expensive!
