Hi all, one of our baby P's, Jacob is having a few issues with his joints. He's only just 5 but when he's stood in/cold he almost seizes up, much like arthritus. He's not lame its just when he's been in his box or lying down in the field when he moves he's very doddery until he warms up. He's not brilliantly balenced either, his lil brother ran into him and knocked him clean off his feet! Being a percheron he has very little in the way of feather which seems to keep the 20yr 3/4 shire limber so we were looking at some kind of turnout sock that covers his fetlocks. We looked at the equilimbrium ones but they won't go around his massive legs. When in his stable he can be bandaged but he lives out with the others. Any ideas what we could use?

I used to own a very thick legged cob and surprisingly equichaps (the neoprene ones to stop mud fever) did fit him (not much else did!). They were slightly long so I had to trim the bottoms but they always stayed in place.

Equichaps are the equibrium ones and they aren't even close.... Jake has propper tree trunks not to mention a splint the size of a golf ball on a front.

Add fresh ground Linseed to his feed - the Omega oils in it will help his joints.

A cup a day should help, grind in a coffee grinder until powdery. Also feeding him glucosamine supplement will help - you'll need to buy the horse type to get the correct amount.
