Do you turnout with boots on and what kind do you use Turnout or brushing etc, and how long are they out with them on?

Ellie is just started going back out in the field after a nasty kick and l would like to put some protection on her back legs so any advice welcome.

The only boot I put on for turnout is overreach boots.

I'm paranoid about the tendons overheating (personally know some bad experiences with this). However if you are going to put boots on - buy some of the ones which are ventilated/breatable... I know they are more expensive but it is worth it!

I turn out in winter with boots on as horse is a plum in the field most of the time. He was out in PE aircooled brushing boots last winter and didn't find they rubbed or made his legs heat up. Over reaches all year round but no boots in summer as he tends to be calmer in the field over night.

Generally out for about 6 hours a day in the winter more if its dry.

I always turn out with boots on. I don't think I would have a horse now if I didn't.
I use the Premier equine turnout boots and they are great.

mine has Mark Todd xc boots for turnout. I used to turn out in woofwear brushing boots but found out that they didn't offer much protection when jerry had a collision with a fence (ripped right through the neoprene and his leg).
