Turnout

I would want my horses out for at least 3/4 hours a day. Mine are out from 7- 6 but I realise I am lucky

It depends on level of work your horse is in and how much they enjoy being stabled.
Personally, I wouldn't like my mare to have less than 6 hours a day.

in the perfect world (where i didnt work) my horses would go out for 3-4hrs a day. As it is they both go out every other day (on alternate days). In the summer they will go out over night and stay in during the day.

Turnout really depends on what type of horse you have/what you do with them etc....

In the winter I would say at least 4-5, although we can turn ours out all day.

In the summer, at a push I would settle for 8hrs, but I prefer them to be out 24/7, which he will be come May

Over here in guernsey most yards only allow 1/2 day turn out. im lucky enought o have enough grazing to keep alice out all day but we rarely have the grazing to let them live out. i would want Alice to have at least 6am - 2 or 3 pm

As long as possible, I personally wouldn't use a livery yard with less than 5 or 6 hours in winter, and would expect 24/7 turn out in summer.

Mine are all out a minumum of 10 hours a day, although I do have 2 who hate being in so need to have them out 24/7. When I only have the 2 youngsters then I may look to move to a nicer yard, I will still be looking for 6-8 hours t/o a day minimum.

The minimum I would accept is probably 8 hours, but even then my horse would still be in for say 15 hours plus a one hour ride. My horses all live out 24/7 but they stay in at night before a competetion. I don't feel comfortable sitting at home in the evening thinking about them shut in their stables. My horses never look happier than when they are all huddled round the hay bales in the fields, I could stand and watch them for hours.

During the winter the minimum is probably 12 hours a day, especially when its getting light (like now). He's out at half 6 and I bring him in about 9 (at night). Summer has to be 24/7. If I had a younger horse without arthritis I wouldn't mind them being in a bit more, but would still want them out for about 10 hours.

As long as possible. In the summer they will all be out 24/7. In the winter I try to make sure they have at least 6 hours turnout each day, 8 or more if possible.

Summer I would want 24/7 available, even if I chose not to have it that way - in the winter, I would also like 24/7 but know most yards don't have the land to do this, so minimum half a day (e.g. 7am-12 or 1pm-6pm) - but if they had restrictions like this I would need them to offer a turn out / bring in service so you don't need to faff around.

Having been at a yard years ago with limited TO, I would opt for what we have now. They get turned out after breakfast about 5.45-6am and come back in about 5-6pm. They have 24/7 TO in the summer. Some horses though cope fine being in with just an hour or so.

In the winter we get 2 hours, in the summer 1/2 a day. Would like more, but after coming from a yard that had only an hour or two, maybe twice a week, I'm not complaining.

If I had my own I would want it out as much as possible, but if I had the chance to keep him/her at a really good yard I would manage with 24/7 stabling over winter.

This has been a big issue for me with finding livery in the past.
Firstly, it depends on the horse. Some horses seem not to like to be out too much. So the rule of always turn out as much as poss does not fit all. Most horses benefit mentally from being able to relax esp if they are fizzy types.
Second, bear in mind the workload. More work /variety may mean the horse can cope with less t/out.
I like my horse to go out as much as poss in the summer. But he does seem to enjoy being stabled in the hotter part of the day 9am - 3pm ish. Apart from that he is out.
In the winter he goes out 9am-3pm ish. If it's fowl he may have trhe odd day when he has to stay in but I insist he gets out in the menage for 30mins if I am not exercising. It's unfair otherwise.
