New pony = new things to spend money on. Arab pony = probably needs rugs.

BBPs 5’6 weatherbeetas, which were always my go to make, are too small, and I get the feeling that even in a size up they will rub her shoulders. She is a bit of a broad unit for an arab, with a coat like silk. I have tried a 5’9 Premier Equine on her and it fits really well around the neck and shoulders, so I would happily go for one of them, but having looked online I’m wondering if there is a slightly more affordable version?

I had a PE rug for my old haffie and it was over 12 years old. The inside lining started wearing and other than being discoloured the outside was still great condition. So that rug definitely payed its way. I don’t know if their quality is still as good now though as haven’t bought one for years.

Swish fit mine simularly to PE.
Weatherbeeta sadly dont fit my big shouldered wb/id , if i size up they are way too long and slip back , but normal size wont go round her shoulders

Swish or my go to Big Horse Shop do a regular fit and a broad fit. My sisters is in a Regular fit and it gives him good shoulder room. Mine is in broad fit, 6'6 but if he is in a wb he has to have a 6'9/7ft due to shoulder room.

Swish sounds like it might be worth a shout. Are they pretty decent quality?

The pony in my post above got a swish to replace her PE but she tore holes in it. She wasn’t a rug wrecker either. I thought the rug was fine but I wouldn’t buy another for the price

Without doubt the swish rug I bought was the worst fitting waste of money I have ever purchased.
You may find a five / nine or even six feet weatherbeeta does the job
I have to buy a least a size larger for my ID ‘s verses buying Premier equine if I buy weatherbeeta .
Although now I only buy PE they just fit best and perform best here .

Swish rugs are good (although beware if you’re after a 0g fill as they are only shower proof, not waterproof).

also the big horse shop - my big guy is in a 7’3 and the big horse shop standard fit fly rug is actually a little big on him.

Weatherbeeta was the go to for my Arab and still is for QH.

ETA I've had Gallop Trojan Xtra rugs as a budget back up and they've fitted the wide QH well. The downside is they are only 600d so when his field "buddies" decide to swing him around by the rug, it doesn't hold up well 🫤

I have been using the 50 g Swish rugs for a few years and have been pleased with them as they are waterproof and do not rub although they do tear more easily that my Rambo Horseware rugs. I work on the basis that they are pretty cheap compared to other brands so if I get a few years use out of them I am happy.

Just found a 6ft weatherbeeta on sale for less than a Swish, so going to give that a go and hope that the extra size up works. If not I’m sure it will fit the Connemara in the 1 in a million possibility he will ever need a rug 😄

Oh really? How big are your boys height wise? She is only about 15hh but broad across the chest with a big backside!
Arabi is only just 15h but his wide big chest and barrel and his a 6ft a 5'6 wouldn't touch him, Louis is 15.3 and wide and is a 6'3 and will squeeze into a 6ft in some brands of rugs.
