I'm finally growing out of my first show jacket, which I've had 5 years!

so need something new, although I'm not going to buy it immediately because I hardly ever wear a jacket so I'll wait for a specific occasion for which I need it. It needs to be tweed because I'm likely to start my stages in the near future - are they fussy about green/brown/blue/grey? As I've said it will only get used occasionally so not too expensive is best, and it doesn't have to be really posh as I only ever do local showing. Can you wear tweed for local SJing as well?

I also don't have any smart boots for exams, shows etc at the moment, and for my birthday in September I might ask for some long ones. Any recommendations? again not too expensive as they wouldn't be used often.

Thanks

Yes you can wear tweed for local stuff. I've got a Welshy so I wear green tweed with a patterned green stock for everything. My long boots are Toggi or Just Togs, reasonably priced and relatively comfy (but you do get what you pay for). How old are you? I'm not sure whether it will be more correct for you to have short boots and gaiters?

Thanks. I'm 16 in September. So if you wear tweed do you wear a stock rather than a tie? I don't know much about this turnout lark!

Keepers tweed looks classy and suits any occasion but can be pricey. However Shires do quite a nice one for about £75 if you want brand new.

I got a lovely one off ebay with a bit of patience, worn only a couple of times, £35 and should have been around £180! It's a great way to get hold of the nicer quality kit for a fraction of the price.

Boots I also got off Ebay. Again got a barely worn pair of Petrie long boots for a fraction of the retail price. You need to take your measurements carefully though and keep them to hand while you're searching.

The Shires ones are fine for the price if you don't wear it that much. If you want nice gaiters and boots definitely go for Tredstep, but for long leather boots the Just Togs are quite nice

You have to wear a tie with a tweed jacket for showing, but for other things a coloured stock will be fine
