I am in need of a green tweed jacket for working hunter/eventing/dressage etc and I am really struggling.

I had my heart set on the Shires Huntingdon Jacket in Green Check however the arms are ridiculously short on me!

I tried the Dublin Cambridge and they were far too short also. I also tried a Caldene Silverdale which was exactly the same :(

I am desperately struggling to find one.

I would like one similar to the Shires Green Check with Navy Velvet on the Collar and Pocket trim.

I had budgeted for around £100 but really struggling with this with my arms

So if anyone has any suggestions for a smart jacket with super long arms they would be gratefully received!

I needed a 32 inch I think? Maybe a 34 depending on make although i normally only get the 34 hoping the arms would be longer!

Thanks :)

I have stupidly long arms. I gave up with off the peg.

Mine is an Alexander James, cost about £150-180 (can't really remember) and is what they call semi M2M. It is based on a size, then tweaked, so I have a short body, long arms, and it means the waist is in the right place, and the arms are long enough.

Worth every penny. Still wearing it7 years down the line, and intend to wear it for at least another 7 if not more.

I was going to suggest get one made. There was someone on here about a year ago seeing if there was a market in this sort of thing for their uncle who was a tailor. Maybe try searching for the post and try contacting them?

I remember that poat too, but they were veeery pricey (£400+ i seem to recall?). If you can get one semi M2M as previous poster suggests for £150 that seems like an excellent buy. They should last you years and yeas, so don't work out too badly in terms of "cost per wear" ;0)

I was going to recommend Alexander james, they are really good and clothes very well made.

A friend had the same problem - she found a Tagg jacket that was long enough, and was very reasonable price. It had a navy velvet collar and is a very dark green with blue overcheck - very smart. I'm sure you're in similar area to me - she got it from the tack shop in Longtown.

Thanks for all suggestions so far!

Soupdragon71 - I was there today actually! Tried a mears which fitted on arms but huge everywhere else!

Thinking made to measure may be only option :( loved the shires one though!

I had a look at alexander James but they are all very expensive!

I think I will go with the Huntingdon, there were a couple of cm of material that could be taken down to make the arms longer and someone suggested a thin piece of navy velvet on the ends to match collar and pocket which I think is the best option! Hopefully this will make the arms long enough!

I bought a pattern online, bought fabric, and took it to a local seamstress. Total cost was about 200 quid. But I also have big problems with off-the-rack: very short back, very long limbs. I'm built sort of like a spider, it seems. :o

Equetech, very good for long arms, I too have a Barbour in navy (unfortunately they don't make show jackets now) that is great. I work in the equestrian clothing industry and try on everything I buy for the shop, and Equetech was the only one thats fitted be so well in 10 years. And a bloomin good price.

The Tagg keepers tweed one comes up longer than all their other tweeds, but i'm not sure it would fit you as well as an Equetech, in my opinion.

The high street shops are full of tweed jackets. Try Zara, they have some really smart green tweed jackets. I'm also tall/long armed. I got one from H&M and bought silver horse head buttons and stitched them on. Cost me 40 in total and is better fit and smarter than my £250 wool jacket.

I think I was riding in the arena the other day after your lesson!

Think I may have found one :)

Yes, glad lesson was last weekend and not today! Hear they were cancelled:(. I didn't have much luck either today - was supposed to be at Richmond for BD but got to Penrith to find A6 was closed:rolleyes:. Anyway had fab lesson last weekend - corners, skinnies and angles - and Sam was a bit of a star.

Hope everything going well with Abbie.

Good news about jacket:).

Yes my lesson was cancelled today :) although sun came out in the afternoon and rode Abbie then. Unlucky with the road closure- I can imagine it being bad down there - shap had snow!

Im taking Abbie to Greenlands tomorrow so I hope it goes ok!

Thanks Coop! Loving the look of the equetech Kenton jacket just dont think my local tack shops stock them! I put a thread if anyone has one if they could measure arms but no replies so far!
