I have managed to secure a place at Twemlows for my mare.

She is unsound and unlikely to come sound so they have they offered to take her as a recipient mare for ET.

Any experiences with Twemlows good or bad would be much apprectaited.

My mare is on loan at Twemlows as an ET recepient mare, she's been there since June 07. Only got my experience to go on but they have been really good, got told when she was in foal, and Janet the secretary is always really helpful, they didn't seem to mind me ringing up to check she was okay. Got an email when foal was born to let me know mare okay. Was on an 18 month loan which is up in December but am leaving her there for another term. Hopefully I will be going up to visit her soon, which again they are quite happy about me doing.
Bear was one of the receipient for Headley Britannia which was quite nice. Her picture was on Twemlow website front page

Thats really good to know cheers

Do you get to know where the mare goes to then and who she is int foal to?
Do you get regular updates?
Can I ask why your mare is there?

I got told who she was carrying for not sure if it was because it was Brit. They are very happy to give updates and let you know that mare has foaled safely. I only rang a couple of times just to check but they were always very helpful.

My mare had lameness which after 18 month vets still couldn't pinpoint other than problems with foot shape Needed to find her a job and someone suggested Twemlows.

My friends mare went there, now has a beautiful colt to show for it

She was very pleased and had no complaints, they are very professional, and were happy for her to ask all her first time mum questions

Glad to see you've joined us here Hollypass! We're quite nice over here so stick around.
Hopefully your posts won't be so sad now. good luck to both of you- you deserve it.

I have not had a mare at Twemlows, but my stallion has stayed there twice now, to be dummy-trained, collected for frozen semen, etc. And breeders have sent mares to him there, so I've heard their experiences as well.

I would recommend them very highly - the care is excellent and they are very nice and helpful people to deal with. I didn't even have to ring to check up - they rang me regularly to let me know how my boy was getting on.

The fact that they give stallion-owners 24-hour webcam so we can log on and see our stallions in their stables any time, day or night, speaks volumes for their confidence in their staff and how the horses are cared for.

I had to laugh watching one of the grooms trying to skip out my boy's box, with him bouncing around after the poor girl with his inquisitve nose constantly over her shoulder, being 'helpful'! He was really being very annoying and getting in her way, but she never even once got impatient with him - just patted him and giggled at him and gently moved him aside when necessary.

Just one little example of how nice they are.

i've used Twemlows for a couple of mares, and found them absolutely excellent. one mare was a bit tricksy and they coped wonderfully with her. All mares came back to me looking very well, very happy and relaxed, and in foal... can't ask more than that.

Just wanted to say that my mare is currently at Twemlows as an ET mare. She went bilaterally lame in front and could not compete or flat, and was never going to be a safe hack so i gave her to Twemlows for free!

She had her first foal this summer and they have been so wonderful, keeping contact- letting me know she was in foal and had safely delivered- even though she's not mine anymore.

I would highly recommend them as otherwise, my little mare would have had to be put down. It's such a useful job for them, and they really are looked after to the highest standard. The best bit for me is that in the winter, all the ET mares live together in a massive barn under solarium lights- talk about pampered!

Good luck!!
