I am doing the 3' class at the hunter trial at Tweseldown on Saturday and was wondering whether the intro course at the unaffiliated ode will be the same, has anyone done both before?
It will probably be similar as there is not so much choice of fences on the smaller courses. Tweseldown don't really have a consistent intro sized course - it tends to vary quite a bit with some smaller fences and some decent intro fences e.g. a decent table, hayrack etc. There won't be anything horrid or scary though except the start can be nappy - you skirt the collecting ring and usually come off a turn to a box fence which can cause problems on green or nappy horses.
Thanks, I have got a green and nappy youngster so am expecting problems at the first so just hope I can get him over, I think once over the first he will be ok.
Hi, I'm there doing the 2'6" on Saturday, it's the PC run event this weekend?
I wonderng where they are going to rustle up 2'6" fences from, I think I've only seen about 5. Taking a youngster too, his first hunter trail and time of seeing solid fences on a course.
Happy as looked through the rules and even if eliminated you don't have to leave the course, so if you really don't like somehting you can go around it!
I'm doing the 2'6 there too, and am also entered into the unaff intro the following week. Will also be happy if you can go round a fence and carry on should you have problems, as i am on a baby horse and have only managed to go schooling once this year due to the weather!
It's not in the rules for the PC hunter trial that you have to leave at walk following elimination. (I look at them carefully as I can't guarantee my little one won't take exception to something and I don't want him to learn stopping 3 times mean he can go home!)So technically they can't make you leave if you are eliminated.
With the unaffiliated ODE it runs under BE rules, you have to leave at walk once eliminated. I had a problem getting out the water last year, my horse would not jump up the tiny step having jumped in?!? I continued and got chased at the end walking back by a man in a 4x4 and was told off.
