To be honest, quite glad to hear that as know so many horses that did the early event last year and came away with tendon injuries as the ground was really boggy.....and i dont think 2006 had as much rain as we've had so far this year??
I also went xc schooling there at the end of feb last year, and the ground was really boggy, yet they still allowed it to be open for schooling (and there were hundreds of horses there schooling, churning it up) bearing in mind the event was less than 2 weeks away.........just felt that perhaps they could have stopped the schooling to allow the course to stay a bit more in tact?
Sorry, just my opinion - could be completely wrong!
I've heard that they didn't cancel cos of the ground.. the ground at Twesledown is as always fine.. but due to the amount of rain we've had the foundations (sp?) of the fences is now unstable and therefore needs work...
The problem isnt normally the going on the course, it's getting the horseboxes in and out safely and getting the emergency vehicles to all points of the course.
i have just looked on british eventing again and when i put this post up all it said was cancelled now they are saying they might do weekend classes sorry guys............
As i said, it's not cos of the ground, the ground is fine, but the foundations of the fences has become unstable (due to all this rain) so some work needs to be done... hence the later days poss. still running (ie if they get the work done in time)...
My trainer is wondering if it will run she is in the OI as desperately needs runs before Badminton but without having an upset. Think she has also entered the AI at Aldon just in case.
