.... and frustrated!!

Sorry, but can't rant on fb!!

Earlier this week someone I know posted photos of their new puppy on fb. All very cute (although no idea where it came from), but it was only 3/4 years ago they had a collie puppy. Kept it about 18 months and then gave it to the Blue Cross because "they didn't have time for it". Now they've gone and bought another puppy. And no, nothing in their life has changed. Infact if anything they are busier with another small child and work!

So that made me grrr

then last night we had a family get together for my Mum's 65th. I left Harley at home because he still whinges at people houses (anyone know how to remove the whinge button????), One sis in law left her dog that's 18 months with her mum and the other sis in law brought her lovely black lab Alfie. He is one of the best behaved dogs I have ever met. They put a bit on carpet in the corner told him to lay on it and he just does not move!!! :) So I went and sat next to him and gave him some lovin and my (scrooge) brother said (jokingly, although he's not an animal lover, he's his wife's dog ;) ) "ignore it, the dog shouldn't get attention". I replied along the lines of "yes he does, he loves Aunty K cuddles", and my other sis in law (who had left her dog with her mother) said very seriously "oh well I ignore Bella, I don't give her any attention at all".

the thing is, it's not the 1st time she's said that, I know she is serious. In the summer we were at her house and I did a similar thing and sat down and gave Bella some fuss and got the same comment that they NEVER do that, they just ignore her! She's by herself all day (gardener lives next door and lets her out lunchtime) and in the evenings left in the kitchen while they are in the living room.

Made me so sad. Granted, they have children and busy lives. I don't so H is prob more spoilt than he needs to be. But it makes me sad and just think well why the heck do you have a dog??? To ignore it and not pay it any attention at all? Seems pointless and unfair on the dog.

Anyway, rant over! Sorry guys! :)

Having been at a dogs trust place this weekend, people's reasons for giving up dogs make me sick. Like giving up a 15 month old dog to emigrate to australia - it takes ages to get a visa, how come you got a dog?!

Do your SiLs kids not play with the dog? Horrid children :p

Well they are 1 and 3.... She is not allowed in the lounge with them and their toys... in case of I don't know what really!!!! Their toys aren't allowed in the kitchen where she is... In the summer she had no toys that I could see. Apparently she destroys them. She also chews furniture... you see the pattern?

When we went on a walk with her and I brought H, she had no idea what to do with a ball!

My nephew loves playing fetch with H. But Bella has not been taught it seems. I did offer to have her last night next time they go away! (don't tell the OH). She'll be taught to play then!!! but she'd only go home and be lonely I expect :(

It really doesn't make sense does it. Having just decided to take on a dog today i am slightly worried about being around for it (I work full time) and making sure it gets enough human (and dog) interaction. However, when i read things like this i know it's going to get more attention than the dogs you mention there!!! It is very pointless having a pet dog and yet not treating it as a pet at all. I can't believe how many people get rid of their dogs and also that the dog i am getting (she's about 9mths old) has already been in 2 homes in her short life!

Everytime I feel bad because I have had a busy week and the dogs not had quite the usual level of attention or I have been out a fair bit, or I have to shave half an hour off a walk etc etc I remind myself very quickly how many utter morons I know with dogs that dont get a fraction of what my (very happy) lot get and feel an awful lot better about it!! The minute you dont worry if you are doing your best is when its all gone wrong IMO! Im sure the lucky doggy will be more than fine with you!

Have a large glass of wine Galaxy. People make me cross as well, pride yourself in knowing less idiots than me if you have only been made sad twice this week! :D

ha ha! That's a great way of thinking about it! Just sad that I'm related to one ;)

Why have a dog if u dont want to spend time with it!! They give so much Joy if you put some effort in with them!!! Since Ive had my pup I think about what I comit too although Im lucky my dad/mum will always pup sit, but I want to spend time with him!! I love playing with him, he asleep now and Im temped to try and wake him up to play but he wont be impressed!!

Why get a dog then ignore it? And what is that teaching the kids? Utterly illogical.

Sad I may be, but after the OH, the dogs are my number one priority. I chose them, not the other way round.

I could never give up any of dogs, I lit the woodburner for them this evening so they dont get cold. Ive watched or tried to watch Xfactor with them all trying to get on my lap:) and always bring them back a treat when I go shopping.

I feel guilty if I take 1 to dog training and leave 2 at home, I worry that they might feel left out. When it poured with rain 1 day last week instead of their normal walk I let them run around the covered cow yard and felt guilty in case they felt short changed.

I just question the mentality of people who own dogs and are not committed to loving, training and caring for them.

See, I would love a dog but due to work hours in the summer, I just can't atm. I also work, and the dog would be left on its own in the day, but I feel thats better than being in a kennels (despite what the dogs trust might say), it would have a proper home, decent walks and great weekends with lots of space to run around. It would also have a nice fire to lie in front of, and some big french windows to bark at the squirrels from

This week has been an abandoned puppy week for me...and its not even the christmas aftermath yet. :(

One of my friends has now taken on 2 abandoned labx puppies that she's trying to rehome. They were found dumped in a ditch on a side road.Lovely little things but they are so lucky she found them and didn't end up on death row in a pound or starving in a ditch :(

Also met the most beautiful 14 week old GSD pup who was brought in for treatment to the vets.....but no one has came to pick him up and owners cant be contacted :( So hes in a cage at the moment with a very uncertain future.Hopefully he will be turned over to a SPCA rather than a pound though.Pulls the heart strings so much because I adore german sheps and I would love to have one like him but cant take on a dog at the min when working long hours and in a rented house.Plus as he hasnt been signed over to the vets they have to keep him seven days or send him to a pound before he can be re homed.Poor lil guy is not at all suitable for kennels :(

Why are people so bloody irresponsible!!

Aru, try listing him on the Biggsd/GSD Vigil Forum?

With him being on 'the list' it won't be good for him to go to a pound :(

Two of the main rescues up here are full already :(
75 dogs to one pound in the month of November alone :(
There is going to be such a shitstorm in the NY :(

Harsh as it sounds Galaxy and I do not agree with their outlook at all, at least they have a roof over their heads.

Ohh I agree, Lola is a very spoilt, cuddled and loved dog! I only work part(ish) time at the moment and have a 10 month old baby and a horse! Lola waits very patiently for her cuddles and I make sure she gets my attention in the evening when Emily has gone to bed. I feel guilty if I've had a busy day or been out all day and always give her extra to make up for it :) When we visit my mum she has to be shut away until she has calmed down as she's too hyper for my mums old senile dog :( I always feel a bit telling her off for pestering him as she only wants to play!!

The first family getting the puppy with no time for it simply need a slap !

My sister is the same with her cocker spaniel :( it is so sad to see her crave for affection as soon as she sees you. We did offer her a home but she said no as she loved her and the kids would be devastated - the kids are too busy playing with Ipads and Iphones to bother with her so she gets left in the kitchen alone whilst they are off doing what they want. She then doesn't understand why the dog tries to escape and runs off!

I am incredibly lucky in the fact that my girl has come to work with me from a pup and still does, although she loves to take herself off to bed at the first chance she gets if we are at home :)

I am being made redundant in January but have started up my own business so I will then be working from home then, so she will still get all my attention - when she's not asleep lol!! :)

Another puppy abandoned.. Guildford staffie now have a 3 month old staffie bitch who had been brought into the vets to be pts. Owners didn't want her anymore. How can you take on a puppy and within 8 weeks decide to kill it?

ha ha I read this and it sounded like me and OH except we dont light the woodburner in case they get too hot!!! WE sit in the cold!

Theres a dog down the road from my flat thats like that. They pay someone to walk her morning and evening and let her out at lunchtime. She lives in her own room in the house and they ignore her. She's such a cuddly dog - bulldog x ? and I really feel sorry for her. I console myself with the knowledge that even if she doesnt have the attention she deserves at least she has a home. food and walks which is more than a lot of dogs get.

This brought tears to my eyes, horrible stupid people :(

Was walking Maisie earlier, met up with several of our little dog walking clique, so 2 hours with 6 dogs playing chase, throwing sticks and balls, chasing rabbits, this time last year she was in kennels, love watching her have such fun :D And we always have cuddles in the evening, she doesn't settle until I sit down on the sofa!

Another who just cannot understand some dog owners
