It was very deep mud out hunting 10 days ago my boy jumped a drain and twisted his fetlock we have another 5 days of Kaolin wrapped in cling film , bandages and sports boots then hopefully can start working again ive never had any injurys like this before ive been very lucky and am very lucky its not a tendon, has anybody had this injury and how did you cope should I put his sports med boots on when I hunt from now on, hes a cob very fit and has good legs the kind of legs you dont have to mother untill now !! or is it just one of those things.
 
I think its just one of those things.... no matter what boots you put on them they can't totally support a joint with the weight of a horse behind it!

One of mine did something similar last year and the physio advised a slow progression back onto 'less stable' surfaces - i.e. start on roads, then onto a level sufrace i.e. menage/field, then onto a less even/stable surface i.e.muddy field/track...then finally get back to nice muddy conditions that we get out hunting!..Then once you're back to normal try not to worry about them too much! (i'm still paranoid though!)
 
My horse was thought to have a twisted fetlock but after 3 months was still just 1/10th lame on a circle.

We had a full spec of tests as then they operated and she had mullered the cartledge. The surgeon tidied up the joint and what was left of the cartledge and she had another 6 montns out of work ( 3 on full box rest then 3 motnsh of restriced turnout ).

She is back on work now and doing well but i have been advised by my vet to always ride in boots. The only time they come off is when im showing but i wear them for warm up.
