Rafi suddenly has a twisted muzzle ,I am not sure it is very clear in this photo but one side is definitely over .

He is no different from usual but on one side he no longer has a moustache and it is straight and the other has hair and is crooked .
Any ideas?

Good Lord Cathy, have only seen this on a rescue pic of a horse at ILPH. Has he taken a knock on it do you think - is there any heat?

No , I don't think so, he has sweetitch and wears a sweetitch rug and has a slight rub across his nose from that but Claire only noticed yesterday that his nose was twisted ,like it is over at the upper lip. She is very observant so think it is new!

EEk so he came in from the field like that? I am a mother hen, but I would get the vet out.

I saw a horse who was born with a twisted muzzle at redwings called oliver twist once.

Difficult to tell but it does look odd. No real idea as such. I would probably give the vet a ring for a chat. Not a panicky chat just a bit of advice.

* I have heard of a twisted muzzle in horses and this was due to facial nerve damage causing one side of the muzzle to droop. The horse also had a droopy eyelid too though. *

I wonder if there is such a thing as 'Bell's Paulsy' in horses?

The only case I've known was facial nerve damage too. Horse wasnt overly affected by it but it's definitely worth a check. This horse was referred and had an MRI on his head

exactly the same thing happened to my friends horse a few years ago, it damaged the nerves in its face which caused nose to twist, took a few months but went back to normal.
