Twisted tree

Yes it is possible, contact your saddler who can deal with it for you through the manufactuer, or contact the manufacturer direct yourself. A saddler won't be able to do it. £ depends on type of saddle, age and who made it.
Good luck!

Ta muchly, cant send it back to manufactuers there in south america!!! its a rather expensive St Lourdes!!!!

Yikes, do they have a UK agent? Most of the time the tree is particular to the manufacturer, which is why is it a back to them job. With them being so far away it might be work investigating the possibility of them sending a tree over for a trusted saddler to fit. Not the normal way of things, but not sure what else you could do!

A good UK based saddle maker would be able to advise on whether its possible to re tree your saddle. It doesnt have to go back to the manufacturer as long as you are prepared to accept that when its taken to pieces there may be nothing that can be done for it!

I have had a SemiFlex tree put into an existing dressage saddle. Fortunately it was made by the same saddler nearly 20 years ago but until it was taken apart there was no way of knowing if the new tree would suit it. It did thank heavens but its cost me getting on for £1000 to find out.

It may prove less stressful for you if you were to just buy another saddle!

I'd never recommend putting in another type of tree - as you say, some saddlers, once they've opened it up, might be prepared to put a different tree in, but it's always much much safer and cheaper to go for exactly what was in it in the first place. You still may not need to send it back to S America for that as the trees may well be British and a standard tree.

As sbloom has said, don't put another type of tree in.If I can't send it back to the manufacturer's for them to do it or get a tree from them then I turn it away.
With a traditional laminated spring tree it's not just a case of putting a new tree in, you'd have to use new webbing to web up the tree, it is under tension when made so a 18" tree should make a 17.5" saddle but as it's made by a human it could be slightly different (once webbed up) to the original, the original would have had the seat hide blocked to the shape of it. Sometimes if you are unlucky you get too much slack with the old sea on a new tree. If you are lucky you can lose the slack round the tree as you tack the seat home.
You need to check the pullers and welts too to make sure they can be re used, if not it all pushes the price up, Oz
