i have a twisted willow tree over hanging my field, iv'e just noticed that my ponies will eat it. so does anyone know if its posionous? do i need to cut it back?

It's a natural anti inflamatory, contains the same chemical aspirin is made from. Just wondering why they are after it though? My older chap who is a bit lami prone always makes a bee line for willow and hawthorn, another plant that is good for laminitics.

My horses have loved browsing on our willow trees and if a branch has fallen then they strip the bark as well. If we know one of ours is uncomfortable we will pull small branches of to give them a treat. Never seen anything except beneficial effects and this over 13 years. BUT I tnink it will show up on a dope test so if you compete at a high enough level be careful. Willowbark tea is an ancient remedy for pain etc in humans.
