hi a quick history
two yrs ago bought 7 yr old connie x tb x ish 16hh ish horse inc 5 stage vetting, had saddle fitted, back, teeth done etc
very un fit and no schooling - v green, from day one did not like being brushed or clipped or touched - back lady said was fine and vet had seen him.

hunted him from the autumn - v slowly and at the back, i did not jump him as i am not to confident anymore and had not done much in the school - flatwork was coming on v slowly - was stiffer on left rein and being on the wrong diagonal was easier - canter was appalling.

saddle done every 6 wks as could not get a good fit even though made to his template
in may last yr had a diff back lady and saddler out as not happy - back lady said he was horrendous two wks off riding with lunging long and low - saddle also did not fit at all

after these were dealt with he turned in to a monster - napping, spinning, rearing, fly bucking, bolting, spooking and generally like sitting on an unexploded bomb when he was not do this - he was constantly arching his back (he had been v laid back and lazy before)

kept going i put it down to him being here a yr, spring grass and feeling better - still struggled with canter and odd gait - spoke to vet - not worried - he went for a wks schooling to a 4 star event rider as canter work hopeless - i don't have a school and we thought along with my normal instructor it might help him to have a wks consistent work. he reported nothing

august and he warmed up sound having a lesson then went hopping lame after ten min - rushed to vets - turned out bilaterally lame, no changes on x rays but blocked to coffin joints - injected with steroids and bar shoes

bought back into work had physic out to him as still not right - warm lump found on spine - bone scanned and still lame on fronts. sacroiliac highlighted as well as navicular area in one front foots. injected with steroids and shockwaved back.

he had 6 mnths off vets saw him march and sound bought into work v slowly led in hand, long reined etc. have now introduced some trot in last 10 days. he is not bucking etc any more. but twists you really badly when you are on the correct diagonal for the left rein (i have just been hacking in straight lines on roads and fields), he trips occasionally and sometimes feels like he is losing his back end. i am more concerned about the twisting though and the tripping is getting better. He twists so badly it hurts my back and is impossible to rise to. please help i am at my wits end - people have said he i fine watching from the ground he is just so uncomfortable to ride!

does anyone have any thoughts

easter egg for anyone who has got this far thanks

in august

Has he had physio to him while he has been off work, if not that would be my next step, get the physio that you now trust onboard to help with this important stage of his rehab.
He had been working for some time while compensating for everything that was going on, by removing the pain and treating him you have got to the point where his muscles now require some input to build up correctly, just resting does not always allow this to happen as they stay how they have been for a long time.

thanks for the reply be positive yes physio been out regularly about every fort night , yes he had been compensating, it is more than lack of muscle i think - i was thinking maybe suspensorys originally as they can sometime go hand in hand with sacroiliac problems but vet did flexion tests and he was sound - i don't know what to do!

Hi sorry I know this is an old post, but did you get to the bottom of the twisting of the saddle, as my connie x also does this as one shoulder is bigger than the other, she drops her hind and her shoulder pushes the saddle of to the weaker hind, mine has been treated for is as she slipper on yard few weeks back, but the vets are saying she is sound and is has improved with the injections
